The longer we wait, the better it'll be![]()
Finally i found some time to develop again on the editor! Texturing is now 95% done:

Will the release version contain all the ground textures in case I for example want to change the ground of Durotar to the one in Hyjal?
Yes, zantas, thats the last step im working on!
Finally got the textures in wow, was just a silly error in the MCLY chunk -.-
Looks not bad i think:

It looks good blend in very nicely.
Those the new version require a lot better hardware then the beta version did?
Wow cromon it looks better day after day. I hope you continue developing it, it will be the best map editor if you work on it.
Not that to bring any shadow of this, but I think Malu05 ingame editor has been the most promising so far, to bad it's not updated for 3.3
Maybe, zantas. But i haven't found any version of malu05 ingame editor working on 3.1.3 or higher version and, if i'm not wrong it didn't saved the changes.
Malu's editor was mostly a proof of concept for accessing the data structures ingame and modifying them. There have been many disadvantages to it like that you have to reverse engineer all the structures once again and you're bound to how WoW manages the data, which is partly not as good as you'd think as they don't load everything you'd need. Also, there was no real realtime editing possible as you had to reload the rendering engine after each click so it adapts the modified terrain as that data is loaded in another structure than the one you could directly edit. [etc.]
My point is: No, the ingame editing idea is not as great as you think. I tried doing it myself. Its a huge pain in the ass. Believe me. Even Noggit is better than what you can easily accomplish in the game.
I also cant really get friend with the ingame editing. Its just that the client wasnt made to have the terrain changed and so everything is just annoing to perform.
And zantas, for your questions:
1. I cant really tell about the ressources. Its running fine with 30 FPS (VSync) on my machine, but my machine has really ****ed up directX. When a overlay window comes up on the desktop -> 1 FPS, sometimes for unknown reasons -> 1 FPS. Luckily (for the application) and sadly (for me) this is in every game that uses directX or OpenGL, so its not because of my programming. Thats why i cant really tell ya about performance.
2. Here you see how you will be able to select textures:

There will also be a "recently used" and a "current chunk" array of textures. You can add the textures to your favourites and these get displayed in the UI where you set the layers and the intensity.
