Kobolds are a race of sniveling, rat-like humanoids (perhaps related to the Ratman species) who infest deep tunnels and abandoned mines throughout Azeroth, but primarily in the Eastern Kingdoms. Cowardly and pathetic by nature, they can be riled to action when backed into a corner. Kobolds have limited intelligence and usually try to stay away from populated areas where other, larger races dwell. They are considered by most adventurers to be more of a nuisance than a threat. Most Kobolds are easy prey, appearing in Elwynn Forest, Westfall, Loch Modan, the Stonetalon Mountains, Thousand Needles, and Arathi Highlands. The strongest Kobolds can be found in Alterac Valley, occasionally assaulting the Coldtooth Mine under the command of Taskmaster Snivvle.

The largest Kobold to ever roam was Noggrin Onetooth, who resided in Durotar, near the Barrens, before he was killed by Rexxar, Champion of the Horde.

Kobolds employ simple earth magic, including ice shields and fire bolts, though most of their number are warriors, skilled with their mining picks. Their style of fighting involves attacking with as many allies as possible, and beating the offending person(s) to death with the aforementioned mining picks.

You would think a race that evolved in the dark of tunnels would have developed some sort of dark vision, but this is not the case. Kobolds rely on the light of their candles to see. Kobolds are extremely protective of their candles and will attack anyone who comes near them, yelling something in Low Common, such as "You no take candle!"

There is evidence that the Kobolds have a possible primordial connection to the beginnings of Azeroth, evidenced by their involvement in the imprisonment of the elemental princess Myzrael in the Arathi Highlands.

In AV, we all know the two massive creatures that dominate members of the opposite faction. Ivus the forest lord and Rokholar the Ice lord. Where do these juggernauts come from?

Ivus the Forest Lord is a a massive Ancient of War boss that aids the Alliance in Alterac Valley.
Embodied in this ancient guardian are the spirits of courage and determination that are necessary to propel the will of the night elves. Calling upon the long forgotten energies of conflicts from ages past, this guardian provides a link to the brutal side of nature and the cycle of life and death that rules all creation.

Lokholar the Ice Lord is a massive Ice Elemental boss summoned by the Horde in the Alterac Valley battleground.

Ice Elementals are a type of Elemental Conglomerate sharing aspects of Air and Water elementals, that originate from Frostland, an iceberg in the Abyssal Maw.

Oh, and note my new avatar
The current activities of Illidan can only be known to those who followed him to the Outland, but in Azeroth, some hints of his state may be gleaned...

    From Malfurion's conversation with Remulos:
Malfurion Stormrage: "Cenarius fights at my side. Illidan sits atop his throne in Outland – brooding. I'm afraid that the loss to Arthas proved to be his breaking point. Madness has embraced him, Remulos. He replays the events in his mind a thousand times per day, but in his mind, he is the victor and Arthas is utterly defeated. He is too far gone, old friend. I fear that the time may soon come that our bond is tested and it will not be as it was at the Well in Zin-Azshari."

The exact meaning and implications of this are not known. It is however likely that Malfurion fears that the bonds between him and his brother Illidan will be tested in the near future (read Burning Crusade). For 10,000 years ago, during the War of the Ancients, the two brothers were forced to work together to destroy the Well of Eternity near Zin-Azshari. Already back then they had taken separate paths. Now, with Illidan crazy and changed in many ways, such a cooperation may prove very difficult.

Illidan currently resides in the Black Temple, where he rules over his forces in Outland. It is unknown whether or not he is still in the service of Kil'jaeden.

According to the Burning Crusade cinematic shown in the 2006 Video Game Awards, he has styled himself as the Lord of Outland.

From the New York Times E3 blog's Jeff Kaplan interview:
"Q. Can you walk me through some of the high-level instances in Burning Crusade? We already know about Karazhan and Hellfire Citadel, and I guess the final dungeon where Illidan hangs out is the Black Temple, yes?

    A. Right, and then there’s Tempest Keep, which is sort of right before the Black Temple, and that’s where you’ll find Kael’Thas Sunstrider. Tempest Keep is one main building and three smaller satellite buildings floating off it. That’s all off the tip of an area called Netherstorm."

    Re: Ask Lore Questions Here

Great reading, have read all of it at here at work.
    I have a question to.
Im wondering about the skeletal remains you can see around the world. First the one you see when flying from IF to SW, there are 5 warlocks standing guard by it, and the other one is the massive skeleton in the Tanaris desert.

ooo came up with another question, what is Uldum, big cracked gates in tanaris.

    Simply bones...sadly

what is Uldum, big cracked gates in taaris.
Uldum is located in the southern part of Tanaris. It is an ancient hall of stone located in the southern reaches of Tanaris desert. Uldum was one of the three ancient halls in which the earthen (the ancestors of the Dwarves) were left to sleep by their titan creators. It is not known what currently transpires within the ancient stone halls. The other two ancient homes of the earthen are Uldaman and Ulduar. Additionally a fourth location, Mauradon, is the location of Terramok, an ancient titan vault. Uldum, is most likely an instance under the rule of Earthen, Golems, Sea Giants, or Titans. This area is one of the Titans (aka The Creators) research labs, created when they where shaping Azeroth.

To enter Uldum, you will most likely need to finish the quest chain The Platinum Discs, which starts at the Discs of Norgannon, guarded by Archaedas, deep within Uldaman.

NOTE: This instance is not yet available.

    I also <3 Dwarves.

    Dwarves, Masters under the Mountain

In past ages, the dwarves rarely left the safety of their mountain fortresses. However, when the call to battle sounded they rose up to defend their friends and allies with unmatched courage and valor.

Due to a recent discovery that uncovered fragments of their ancient origins, the dwarves have undergone a remarkable transformation. The discovery convinced the dwarves that the mighty Titans created them from stone when the world was young. They feel that their destiny is now to search the world for more signs and proof of their enchanted heritage and to rediscover the Titans' hidden legacies.

To this end, the dwarves have sent out archaeological teams to all ends of the world in the hopes of discovering new insights into their shrouded past. These journeys have led to dwarven excavation sites all over the known world, some of which serve as outposts and some of which serve as potential hunting grounds for the enemies of the dwarven race.

The dwarves were stout allies of the humans during the Second War, joining the Alliance of Lordaeron after their homeland of Khaz Modan was invaded. Holed deep in their mountainside city-fortress of Ironforge, the dwarves have managed to weather both the Horde invasion and the plague. Still, they are long-lived, slow and careful folk, and children are a rare blessing to them. The dwarves of Ironforge number a mere 60,000.

Still, their tendency to explore is impressive. If about two thirds of the surviving humans now live in the capital city of Stormwind, less then a third of the dwarves are in Ironforge. In fact, there are more dwarves in the dwarven section of Stormwind then Ironforge itself. Now Ironforge is home to the Gnomish population as well, after they fled from their devastated city of Gnomeregan.
