Karazhan is located in Deadwind Pass on the sub-continent of Azeroth. Existing long before Medivh inhabited it, it is unknown who originally built Karazhan or who now resides within its walls.

During the first war the tower was inhabited by Medivh, his butler Moroes, his cook Cook and his then-apprentice Khadgar. Garona also resided here as an emissary in the same time of Khadgar's apprenticeship. Sargeras allowed Medivh to freely explore Karazhan. It is said many strange and disturbing visions lurked within the tower, and Moroes was known for wearing blinders to avoid seeing them. Much of the story from this era is presented in the novel The Last Guardian.

Recently, despite Medivh's absence, a new power seems to have made its home in Karazhan. The Black Riders of Deadwind Pass, though rarely seen, have a connection to Karazhan. However, no one knows who their master is. One recent sighting is cause for concern--the Black Riders seek the Scythe of Elune, a powerful artifact with the ability to summon the vile Worgen into this world.

It is believed that all ley lines on Azeroth lead to a location under Karazhan.

Worldofwarcraft.com says the following about Karazhan:

The decrepit tower of Karazhan once housed one of the greatest powers Azeroth has ever known: the sorcerer Medivh. Since his death, a terrible curse has pervaded the tower and the surrounding lands. The spirits of nobles from nearby Darkshire reportedly walk its halls, suffering a fate worse than death for their curiosity. More dangerous spirits wait within Medivh's study, for it was there that he summoned demonic entities to do his bidding. However, the brave and foolish are still relentlessly drawn to Karazhan, tempted by rumors of unspeakable secrets and powerful treasures. Forge a group of ten stalwart heroes, and journey to the tower in Deadwind Pass - but be warned that only those who have achieved level 70 should dare enter.

This thread really taught me, but mainly that big big post at front.

I have a great question to ask. If night Elves, and Blood elves are both actually high elves who rely on different sources of magic now, why to they hate eachother, and more importantly, why do blood elves look so much more awesome(-----Theyre Red)

Ten thousand years ago, during the reign of the night elf Queen Azshara, there was an elite magic-using sect known as the Highborne, who dabbled in magics that many other elves considered heretical by drawing upon the power of the Well of Eternity. During the War of the Ancients, most were fiercely loyal to Queen Azshara, but a small group of them realized the dangers of their association with the Burning Legion and defected to the Kaldorei Resistance. Some time after the Great Sundering, most of the surviving Highborne left Kalimdor and settled on the Eastern Continent, founding the kingdom of Quel'Thalas. They became known as the high elves. During this time, they created the Sunwell, and switched to a diurnal waking cycle, instead of the nocturnal cycle they had kept when they were night elves. Their purple skin eventually faded to a pale peach color, like that of the humans and dwarves.

    Jarod Shadowsong
Jarod Shadowsong is the younger brother of Maiev Shadowsong and commander of the Kaldorei Resistance during the War of the Ancients.

    History
Jarod was a minor captain in the city guard of Suramar who was unofficially promoted when he returned accompanied by Malfurion Stormrage, Tyrande Whisperwind, Krasus, Rhonin, and Broxigar. Jarod was put in charge of guarding these important personages and became a valuable supporter of Lord Ravencrest.

    Commanding the Resistance
When Desdel Stareye took command after Ravencrest's death, Jarod was named liaison to the Tauren and Earthen, largely because Stareye thought Jarod was used to sacrifice. When Stareye was killed (much to the relief of Krasus and Rhonin), Jarod unconsciously assumed field command of the troops. As a result, the tide of the battle was turned from the death of the resistance to into a small victory within hours. Rhonin, the Earthen and the Tauren insisted that Jarod assume complete command of the allied forces, to which he reluctantly agreed. Jarod's unorthodox tactics were extremely effective in holding the line against the Burning Legion (about 25 miles out to sea from Kalimdor's current coast) with minimal loss of life until the arrival of Archimonde to the battlefield. These battles even liberated the Night Elves from Stareye's mistakes and improved relations with other races.

Towards the end of the conflict, Jarod entered single combat with Archimonde himself. He knew that he would not be able to defeat the demon lord, but he fought anyway...until the portal in the Well of Eternity collapsed, and all of the Burning Legion - including Archimonde - were banished from the world of Azeroth.

After the War of the Ancients
Following the conclusion of the War, Jarod was named one of the major leaders of the Night Elf civilization (the others being Tyrande Whisperwind, Malfurion Stormrage and Dath'Remar Sunstrider).

Jarod was known to have at least partly returned the affection of Shandris Feathermoon.

One day he simply vanished, along with a few personal possessions. He did not say where he was going, nor, in fact, did he bid anyone farewell. Since that time, there have been no sightings of him.

Rhonin was once a promising mage of the Kirin Tor until a disastrous misadventure involving the reckless use of magic cost the lives of several wizards. He was cast into probation until the opportunity for penance arose with a dangerous mission into Khaz Modan. He was assisted in this mission by the High Elven ranger Vereesa Windrunner, the warrior Dwarf Falstad Dragonreaver, and the dragon-mage Krasus, who was the instigator of this mission.

He was also assisted (at first) by the evil dragon Deathwing, but Deathwing's true purpose was to steal some of Alexstrasza's eggs to replenish his own decimated dragonflight. With a gemstone created from Deathwing's scale, Rhonin was able to destroy the Demon Soul and release Alexstrasza.

During this mission, Rhonin and Vereesa fell in love, and were later married. Along with Vereesa and Krasus, Rhonin was among the few well-known survivors of the Scourge that destroyed Lordaeron, Dalaran and Quel'Thalas after the corruption of Prince Arthas. Most of Rhonin's family, including his father, were killed during the fall of the town of Andorhal.

While he and Vereesa were preparing for the birth of their twin offspring, Rhonin was once again summoned by Krasus for help. Apparently, the dragon-mage had discovered a rift in time, which swallowed both of them, along with the Orc veteran Broxigar. The three were sent 10,000 years back in time to the first invasion of the Burning Legion.

While in the past, Rhonin encountered legendary beings such as Cenarius, Malorne, Aviana, and became friends with the heroes Illidan and Malfurion Stormrage, Tyrande Whisperwind, Jarod and Maiev Shadowsong and Shandris Feathermoon. Rhonin actually became Illidan's mentor, but despite Illidan's admiration, much of Rhonin's work involved cleaning up Illidan's mistakes. When Illidan defected, Rhonin assumed command of the Moonguard. As a reward for Rhonin's courage, Nozdormu allowed Rhonin to return to Vereesa at the moment she went into labor to ensure he would not miss a moment of the twins' lives. Nozdormu also offered the children the friendship of the Bronze Dragonflight.

Well, in truth, Horde also ride gryphon's and the Alliance also ride wyverns, it is simply not in-game.

Tauren have a long and complex oral tradition that has been handed down for generations. Since almost no written record exists of tauren history, the accuracy of their tales is ambiguous. Regardless, many of their stories provide the only known account for several events in history, and so these stories must be regarded as having at least some believability. The tauren race is as old as, if not older than, the night elves and much like the elves, they have a strong attunement to nature and the elemental spirits. Thus, their society is largely based on shamanism. They live to serve nature and maintain the ever delicate balance between the wild things of the land and the restless spirits of the elements. In addition, elements of druidism, which had been taught by Cenarius and then forgotten over millennia, have been recently reincorporated into tauren society, further highlighting their service to nature. In particular the presence of accounts regarding Cenarius before he was known to the elves (the "war of the ancients" trilogy refers to the night elves believing Cenarius to be a bedtime story before allying with him during the war) that are confirmed by others sources as being accurate, indicate that taurens were already a civilized presence in Kalimdor before the rise and even maybe existence of elves. In particular the birth of Cenarius is covered and their version confirmed by night elven mythos, as well as in the book "The Sundering" by Richard A Knaak.

As for related races? The tauren's name and appearance are based upon the Minotaur of Greek mythology. The Minotaur was a creature that was part man and part bull.

Before World of Warcraft shipped, Blizzard talked about implementing something called a Hero Class. These would be classes derived from the base classes, but with more specialization and somewhat tied to Warcraft lore. The idea of a hero class is presumably taken from the Warcraft III hero units.

Currently there are no hero classes in WoW but they are in the planning.

    Blizzard Says 'Maybe Not'
We are still interested in alternate character advancement, but the term 'Hero Class' should probably be discarded. There is way too much expectation carried in the words. The theories and ideas that have been aimed towards alternate character advancement will not likely take the form of 'new classes' and player speculation on such things is fairly divergent from what design ideas have been discussed.[4]
    -Tseric on June 15th, 2006
From Nethaera, about two weeks later:
At current there are no plans to implement Hero classes or siege weapons. I know how people were hoping for and expecting these things to be added in but focus and ideas have changed. The thing to understand about those ideas is they were stated relatively early on when there were a lot of other concepts being juggled. It just so happens that these couple of concepts don't fit in with the current plans for World of Warcraft. Believe me when I say I was hoping for some nice ballistae myself.
    -Nethaera on June 30th, 2006
The thread containing that post was deleted at roughly 4:30 PM PST that same day. Nethaera responded to a different thread with:
Hero classes have not been canceled. My newness has bitten me on the rearend. After talking to Ordinn I was informed that there is no new news on this and things are still on the table. I apologize for the misunderstanding and you may commence with the floggings.
    Still Not In Sight

    22-Sep-2006
What's happening with, or happened to, the hero classes?
Frank Pearce, Senior VP of product development at Blizzard, responds:
Hero classes. Yeah. So, hero classes have fallen into the category of feature backlog. We don't have any immediate plans for hero classes, it's not part of The Burning Crusade. It's something we'd like to evaluate more going forward. But, you know, if and when.[5]

    Re: Ask Lore Questions Here

Ok got a few questions, hopefully no one asked them already. okay.....

    1. who was, is and possibly will be the strongest being everknown to azeroth? and a follow up question why are some of the currently known beings of world of warcraft trying to obtain gul'dans power?

    2. what happened to the other 4 old gods aside from c'thun, and what are theyre names and backrounds if possible?

    3. what is nefarian's and onxyia's relationship with one another, friendly or foe-like?

    4. this question is more broad but what allowed the titans to defeat the old gods?

    5. finally if they're were old gods, does that imply that theyre are currently new ones?

hope this isnt to hard to figure out, and thx.

    Re: Ask Lore Questions Here

    1. who was, is and possibly will be the strongest being everknown to azeroth? and a follow up question why are some of the currently known beings of world of warcraft trying to obtain gul'dans power?
This is up for debate, usually between Arthas (the new Lich King) and Malfurion Stormrage.

As for why beings are attempting to recieve his powers? Add the fact that he was the personal apprentice of Kil'jaeden, it seems likely that his power was on par with that of Malfurion Stormrage or the Lich King, with only individuals like Kil'jaeden, the Old Gods, and the Dragon Aspects surpassing him.

    2. what happened to the other 4 old gods aside from c'thun, and what are theyre names and backrounds if possible?
Of the five initial Old Gods, one was slain; its remains can be seen at the Master's Glaive in Darkshore.

The three Gods imprisoned beneath the earth continued to exert their will, though in limited ways.
    • They corrupted the great benevolent Dragon Aspect Neltharion, to create for them the extremely powerful Demon Soul which they empowered as well, to have Sargeras use to unintentionally set them free. The Demon Soul was taken from Neltharion by Malfurion, then taken from him by Illidan and put in the Sargeras-summoning matrix, then taken back by Neltharion, who shortly thereafter was struck away by the Old Gods, who wished to have the summoning completed. Malfurion picked up the Demon Soul after Neltharion dropped it, and used it (in conjunction with Illidan) to prevent Sargeras' entry. It was then given to the dragons, stolen by Nekros ten-thousand years later, taken back by the dragons, and then destroyed.
    • They corrupted some of the Highborne, and used them to lure the Burning Legion to Azeroth. Many of the Highborne were transformed into the Naga, who serve the Old Gods still.
    • They invaded Nozdormu's realm and managed to open a rift in time, that, as they had planned, tossed some beings back through time, beings that would change the way the war of the ancients took place, and give Sargeras a new chance to enter the world, and therefore them a new chance to set themselves free. Their plans were although again crushed by the very same Malfurion Stormrage.

    3. what is nefarian's and onxyia's relationship with one another, friendly or foe-like?
Well, to quote a lore source on Nefarian-
One of Nefarian's mightiest supporters is his younger sister, Onyxia.

    5. finally if they're were old gods, does that imply that theyre are currently new ones?
Well, the Old Gods were not truly Gods in the same sense as say, Elune.
If you are to compare them, The Pantheon would be the "New Gods" in a sense.

    Re: Ask Lore Questions Here

thx for the info yesterday i was very pleased with the answers i recieved, however one answer troubles me, where you said malfurion stormrage is the other most powerful being known to azeroth. Please explain why its him and lets say for example not kil'jaeden or anyone else.

also i have another few questions...

    1. why doesnt kil'jaeden go kill the lich king himself instead of sending illidan and his followers?

    2. what is Ragnaros and thunderaans relation to azeroth or the gods? In other words why are they there and what put them theyre?

    3. expand upon the patheon you mentioned if possible.

    4. where does Lord Kazzak fall into play in all of this? Why hes here , who put him there and where his political status falls. Also why was he seen running into the dark portal when it was opened?

    5. If possible could u make a list of the top 10 most powerful beings known to Azeroth.

thx again, hope these arent too tuff im just very interested in the warcraft lore.

    1. why doesnt kil'jaeden go kill the lich king himself instead of sending illidan and his followers?
He cannot come to Azeroth nor Outland without MASSIVE effort and the help of many spellcasters.
    2. what is Ragnaros and thunderaans relation to azeroth or the gods? In other words why are they there and what put them theyre?
They are both Lieutenants of the Old Gods.

    3. expand upon the patheon you mentioned if possible.
They are the group of Titans who shaped worlds and watched over the universe. They are the leaders of the Titan race, and empowered the Dragon Aspects.
    4. where does Lord Kazzak fall into play in all of this? Why hes here , who put him there and where his political status falls. Also why was he seen running into the dark portal when it was opened?
From Blizzard's Official World Dungeons site:

Following the defeat of the Burning Legion at the end of the Third War, the remaining enemy forces, led by the colossal demon Lord Kazzak, pulled back to the Blasted Lands. They continue to dwell there to this day in an area called the Tainted Scar, awaiting the reopening of the Dark Portal. It is rumored that once the Portal is reopened, Kazzak will travel with his remaining forces to Outland. Once the orc homeworld of Draenor, Outland was ripped apart by the simultaneous activation of several portals created by the orc shaman Ner'zhul, and now exists as a shattered world occupied by legions of demonic agents under command of the night elf betrayer, Illidan.

In Blizzard's recent 'The story so far', it has been revealed that Lord Kazzak used an artifact to re-open the Dark Portal, possibly meaning the time he has long awaited has come, and he may rejoin the rest of the Burning Legion. In the Burning Crusade, he is known as Doom Lord Kazzak. Lord Kazzak's replacement on Azeroth after the re-opening of Dark Portal is Highlord Kruul, one of Kazzak's minions

I can't now, but it would be pretty hard to say if I were to do it in order.
