He did eventually appear to Thrall; the night elves Malfurion Stormrage and Tyrande Whisperwind; and Jaina; in a dream, but Medivh, the Last Guardian of Tirisfal, was indeed not a spirit.

His choice to remain uninvolved directly in the Third War led some to believe he was a ghost. However, Medivh had been resurrected by his mother using the last of her magic when it became clear that a new threat loomed over the world of Azeroth - a threat in the form of the Scourge, the latest weapon of destruction devised by the Burning Legion. Aegwynn had survived the battle with Medivh, who promptly set up magical wards to ensure that his mother lived in peace. (check out the novel Cycle of Hatred, it short and contains this. Good book.)

The question was wether he was able to resurrect himself or not, wether he was a ghost or not is subject of debate. I'm having a hard time filtering out how much of your post is quoted directly from the book though, I find that a big part of it is from wowwiki, but perhaps they copied from the book there too?

They did. I have the novel in my possession and I suppose I could write out the page in question if you are terribly interested in his return among the living.

Well, he might be alive then.
But I doubt he's that powerful, he was slain by Khadgar even though he possesed Sargeras.

Even a demon infused Arch Magus is not immune to decapitation.

Always remember arguing lore in the Warcraft universe is a hard thing to do. Blizzard has scewed the pooch with Warcraft's lore so much with WoW that the pooch has locked itself in the bathroom with a tube of soothing cream.

You'd think he'd be able to prevent it though.

Did you read the novel yourself? It will shed a decent amount of light on that mystery.

Yes I did read it. A long time ago when it was first released.
Admittedly maybe I ought to read it again.

Am I the only one who thinks that WoTLK will destroy Warcraft's lore completely?

First off, why the hell would The Lich King even CONSIDER wasting his time fighting pathetic "heroes" like us? We shouldn't even be able to come NEAR him. He should have conquered Azeroth by now. Secondly, if they make Frostmourne lootable, how would that look? 50 players walking around with Frostmourne? It just doesn't make sense. In fact, WoW doesn't make sense at all.

Correct, WoW does not conform completely to the Warcraft universe Lore..it can't. But it does it VERY well compared to other MMO's out there.

I know it is hard, but eventually I stopped being anal about a video game not being able to be realistic. Lets face uncomfortable facts- If I can res, why not Illidan?

As for the Arthas encounter...well, all I'll say is its not just players who lead to his downfall.

You're right, WoW can't follow lore 100%, which is why it shouldn't try to! If they didn't make all those raid instances with all the characters we know and love, and just made a world where you can live and thrive. Have you ever played Star Wars Galaxies? It was the greatest game EVER! Why? Because it allowed you to live in the Star Wars universe, without being about fighting popular characters from the movies. You could live by crafting! Actually, crafters usually had much more money than fighters. You could buy a friggin' house and decorate it! That is exactly how WoW should be. It's called; The World Of Warcraft! It's supposed to be about living in the world of Warcraft. Not fighting the epic characters of Warcraft. Of course, Galaxies got ****ed up after WoW came. A damned shame...
