Asking for donations is a elaborate scam , the point of a free server is not to pay only if you want to but not to pay at all , sure you don't have to buy them shiny items that will make you 10 times stronger in PVP , but can you ignore it ? Well , i can safely tell you you can't , because the whole point of playing the game is to become strong and kill everything and everyone who stands near you and steals your precious air and the moment you can afford those shiny items you must have it like the rich guy drinks burbon and jack instead of cheap 5$/bottle crap. Ok at this point i'm sure you think "well duuuh, people invest money in them servers and they need to pay for hosting and blahblah" yaright , so why did you actually build a server if you can't cover the bills yourself ? That's not an excuse that's just a reason , and for the same reason you make shitloads of cash that some people could actually do something important with like buy drugs and pay for sex. I don't remember what the thread subject is but i'm pretty sure what i wrote here should cover it.

Exactly. Except you're a bit wrong. That's what wrong with the "donate for epic gear" model that's currently working on most major servers - people pay to play, not to keep the server up.

(Yes, I know it's a week old reply, but seeing as this is still a relevant discussion and since it was bumped anyway...)
FOR A MOMENT, NOTHING HAPPENED. THEN, AFTER A SECOND OR SO, NOTHING CONTINUED TO HAPPEN.

i think vip should just be getting items that are already available like you raid for whatever and they can buy it so they dont have a major disadvantage like some servers 500khp>20khp
If someone helped you a good way to thank them is by clicking the +Rep button.

yeah on my server i only sell items that are already available (and NO pvp/arena items)
only some small custom stuff like 36slot bag and a tabard with some minor stats, nothing that gives an UBER advantage

Hmm and what server might that be?

Remember there was a Private server that was top 5 on extremetop100 i belive, And they got shitloads of donations so the owner ran around buying ipods and shit IRL and high ranked staff members got money for there work on the server. I doint remember how mutch it was but he got over 100.000$ on the years he had the server up.

Googled for 30 mins to find the forum post about it but cant find it. Some staff member had exposed the whole thing on a Forum.

So would be intressting to se the top 10 servers on extremetop100 and se how mutch donation money they got.

Donations are great, it keeps a server up and running for the people that enjoy playing it. Although, I do agree that, adding drastically over powered items is not the way to go. You need to find the right balance between Blizzlike and fun.

For all of you absolute idiots supporting Donations, I feel sorry for you. Not only do you have no self preservation but you obviously buckle under pressure quite easily. I agree 100% with the original poster. It is not thier data to charge money for and infact this is as close to business fraud as you can get.

Let's imagine for a second that I collected all of the repack releases, trinity core, arcemu core, mangos core, compiled them all and then made a website with all packs for sale 20$ each. Does that sound even remotely acceptable to anyone? So why is it ok for people to scam others out of thier hard cash just to be accepted? As far as I can tell it looks like people paying money for attention, which as I said is beyond pathetic. Go outside and make some friends.

Human nature? Yeah try that shit in my presence and my "human nature" will slap the shit out of you for trying to **** over your fellows humans. Stupid ass degenerates, YOU are the problem with society! twocents

Yes, overpowered items are not ok, but servers really need donations, how would you like it if you were paying $300 a month for a dedi and no one was helping you? No player would ever donate just to keep the server alive, hence the need to make items, donations are fine as long as the items are items any normal player can get from pvp or raiding.

And what does that part about repack releases have to do with servers? Oh and you can't compile a repack because it's already compiled >_>

Whoa, some servers are really taking it far, I mean, Donation gear? That's like saying: "Screw you, if you don't pay!" This is why I left my previous 5 servers and decided to start a new one. And then I got the idea blizzard had gtten some time ago, I'm gonna sell star ponies!! That doesn't harm the non-payers and doesn't give unfair advantages for donators, am I right?

If you do not want to serve, then don't run a server. Some of you need to understand what it means to be a server admin. It's not a game, and OUR resonsibilty to keep the sever up, not the client. I figured this would be self explanitory.

Bullshit. I'm the admin, it's MY responsibility to make whatever I want be my responsibility. I put hundreds hours into developing the server AND you want me to spend $300+ a month? So some random kids can have fun completely at the expense of my time and money? Good luck with that. I'll pass.

You're ridiculous thinking your views are law and everyone should know them by nature.
Feel free to contact me if you need help or would like to assist me in one of my many projects.

Donations are donations, what emu servers do is sell stronger gear, thats not donations
