    November 28th Update

Here’s 5 auctions of soul dust I purchased. I wasn’t able to sell at market value, but I still made a tidy profit for a lower level character.

Ryoushi in his thread (LINK) made a mention of Deviate fish as an item to watch. Related is the Deviate Delight Recipe. On my server at least it goes for around 160g. Occasionally someone will sell it at a very low price, which I was lucky to catch. I made over a 2700% profit. Keep this in mind with other recipes.

I’m starting to build a list of items to watch for those who aren’t quite sure themselves. I’ll add to the list over time.

    Watch List

    Dusts
    Infinite, Illusion, Dream, Arcane Dust
    Essences
    Cosmic, Planar, Eternal Essence
    Elementals
Eternal Air, Earth, Fire, Life, Shadow, Water
Essence of Air, Earth, Fire, Undeath, Water
    Cloth
    Frostweave Cloth, Netherweave Cloth, Runecloth
    Herbs
Frost Lotus, Icethorn, Lichbloom, Mana Thistle
    Leather
Heavy Borean Leather, Borean Leather, Arctic Fur, Knothide Leather
    Metals
Froststeel Bar, Titanium Bar, Saronite Bar, Cobalt Bar, Eternium Bar
    Ore
Titanium Ore, Saronite Ore, Cobalt Ore, Eternium Ore

These are all materials used in tradeskills. Tradeskill mats sell very well. With market prices still fluctuating, take care when purchasing.

In my next update I'll list items i've bought, sold, and my profits.

    December 3rd Update

    Money and Patience
A lot of how much money you make in the AH is limited by your money and patience. Money allows you to buy up a ton of underpriced goods, perhaps all of one item, and raise the market value yourself. With patience you can sell these over time, matching the demand with supply. Someone who is limited in funds cannot purchase the 20 lowest auctions of Frostweave, and someone who is limited in patience does not want to bank them and wait until the price increases.

Buying and Selling in BIG quantities

Look for an item with a relatively high demand that very underpriced, with enough auctions low enough that you would have trouble turning much of a profit if you bought the lowest auctions and reposted them.

Buy as many auctions as you feel comfortable, perhaps at least 10% under the market value. Bank them, and wait. Check the AH at least once a day. When AH prices are high enough that you can relist your items for a decent profit, do so. Depending on the number you bought you may not want to relist them all at once.

If these sold, you just made some decent coin. If not, figure out what went wrong.

This approach is much more methodical, and requires patience, but can make you a lot more money in the long run, rather then buying the odd item that is underpriced from the others and reselling it on the spot.

The one thing to really remember though is that the market can be very volatile right now; be sure before you buy items for what looks like a really good deal that the market price isn't just way down right now. For example, a lot of the previously epic gems from BC are selling for 1/10 of what they used to sell for and if you buy them and try to sell them for the old values, you will not sell em.

Pay attention to market trends. Some of my old standbys are not selling for anywhere near what they did before. Specifically:

    * BC Gems (new gems are better and cheaper)
    * BC Foods and materials for those foods (although it looks like the materials are selling better than the foods themselves)
    * BC Primals (although they can still sell pretty well)

Also watch for items which WERE selling well, but have now saturated the market, so the price on them is dropping rapidly. For example crystallized water/earth, etc. Auctioneer can be an awesome tool, but be sure to pay attention to the market. Thanks for the guild though for people who don't know how to use it!

    Good tips

Bump - Guide is still quite relevant, and working even better as WOTLK prices continue to settle!
