Just out of blue got a question for ya....
No legal action can be taken for scamming accounts from people selling them can there?
Considering the account is property of blizzard and they had no legal right to sell it in the first place?
Just wondering if I have anything to worry about while scamming the scammers that threaten legal action (I know 99.9% is just scare tactic) just wondering for the other .01%...
Any help would be appreciated..
Precisely. You technically are not selling it as it is property of Blizzard.
If you've noticed, lots of ebay sales say "I am selling the time and work spent on the account and characters, not the account itself", thinking that perhaps this makes it allowed. No matter what you say or how you do it, it's not allowed, but they are sort of correct in saying they're selling the time spent, as that's all they CAN sell. The account is no one's property but Blizzard.
So, yes, you're 100% correct. No legal action could be taken.

Made some updates to a few sections and added a sort of table of contents.

Thanks for taking the time to share your information. I am on WoW EU and recently had a 72 hour suspension with final notice, one week later I received a permanent suspension due to ‘Involvement in online trading activities’. I cant think of any reason that this would happen but after reading through all of the information I have found through Googling I think it may be down to the fact that as I work away from home my IP address sometimes changes, ie I was currently in China working and I am usually based in Scotland (that is where the account is registered to).
I have sent an email in and fingers crossed that I get my account back, I have been playing for about 2 years now and my character was level 60 for about 7 months. I had just recently started levelling her again and got her to 67 so the thought of loosing out on all that time is too annoying to think about.
Cheers again,
Melissa
What's so funny is that this is a wide-scale problem. But what's even funnier is that you honestly shouldn't have even read my guide.
Tons of people have gotten their account banned because of this. If your IP suddenly changes from America/Europe to China, flags pop up, and it's investigated. People are banned by mistake so many times because of this. To be honest, I wouldn't even say this is a problem on Blizzard's end: seeing a Chinese IP on an account that's normally from (in your case) Scotland, and seeing that IP leveling a character up is 99/100 times a power leveler or account renter. It's very, very hard to tell the difference some times.
Anyway, what you need to do is simply send an email to [email protected]. But, just tell them everything that actually happened.
The info in this guide is directed towards people who have been banned for legitimate reasons, such as for buying power leveling, and the point is explaining how they can make up a story and get the account unbanned. Basically, I'm asking them to lie to save their skin.
You, on the other hand, just explained why part of the reason why this method works. They know that a Chinese IP on an account doesn't always mean power leveling. It can either mean you were hacked, or that you were on a trip to an Asian country.
It's just that being hacked is more common, therefore saying you were hacked is generally more believable than saying you were on a business trip to China. Plus, for most people it'd be much easier to just say "I was hacked" instead of giving the exact details of their trip.
I said you shouldn't have read this guide because the guide explains on how to lie to try and explain that you were innocent. But you actually ARE innocent. Therefore, this guide is essentially useless to you.
If you haven't already done so, simply explain the situation, and explain that you went on a trip from Scotland to China. I'd also recommend you even mention the area (or province, or whatever it's called in China), and the city. Basically just list any detail of the trip.
Don't lie at all. You have no reason to lie, since you were truly banned by mistake.
Goodluck with Account Administration. But above all, remember that mistakes happen, and do not hold this against Blizzard.

:banned: I had a feeling that this may be the reason behind it. I have sent an email telling them the reasons behind the IP changes & stated that I am more than happy to supply ID showing that I am the original account owner. Going to be working in Ireland in a few weeks and I think I will just avoid logging into my other account while away, lol it seems easier to just pass the time in the pub rather than suffering another ban. I do realise that mistakes happen and believe me if its sorted I won't be holding anything against the company. I just cant stand the thought of trying to relevel another priest. Once again thanks for sharing all your information, I know that it wasnt relevant for myself but it did give me a better understanding of what may be happening.
Thanks again!
Melissa
Oh my god.. so much text!
Richard rules!
Haha, believe it or not, I had to delete some things because the post hit the maximum character limit.
It's currently hovering right next to the limit, though, so any Q & A would have to be continued in the thread.
Does anyone have any additional questions about Blizzard policy in general? I'd love to answer them.![]()
