Compiling ascent?

Are there any CONSTRUCTIVE guides about how to compile ascent? Every one i've come acrosss is crap.

Viter's guide is great, I personally use Visual C++ 2003, although its hard to find, it's the most compatible with most of the SVNs people use.

You can use Visual C++ 2008 express also.
