Give rep from the shoutbawx

Hi everybody !
I didn't want to post on conf thread about separate channels because i didn't want to change the subjet there. (which btw i totally agree, a tab or a link that can refresh itself with the new threads would be awesome and really help)

So here is my idea : i would like to be able to give rep to some users that really help me on the shoutbawx. Actually if i'm not mistaken (i searched and found nothing) i cannot rep them for their saying on the bawx i can only do it from their posts.

I sometime (a lot tbh) ask questions and when somebody answer me i would like to give him rep because i see rep like reward for someone that help me. Like a big thanks.
If you can just take the repped message instead of the link to the post it could be printed like a normal post reputation on the reputation tab.

It can bring more people to use the shoutbawx and will make it more alive

The only problem i could see is if people decide to rep lolcats and things like that but it could be added to the shoutbawx rules.

Can it be possible ?

But idea of bawx-rep seem to be pretty valid, countless times I've had to go to someones profile -> last started threads just to give him rep for help in the bawx, like Jaerin when he borrowed hes D3 beta to me, that guy who found source of my avatar (can't remember nick) etc.

ah well, lets just leave it here and w8 for kuri to say "it won't happen" or JD saying "find the plugin and we might consider it" :3

Well this kinda indirectly exists. Alot of people will just go find a post that someone did, and +Rep them for that.

I'm against this, it would also make it easier for people to rep for stupid shit like "haha funny picture in da bawx", which imo is NOT rep worthy.

aye, it's maybe not that long but a bit annoying, opening additional tabs, closing current ones by mistake etc - all included.

about repping for stupid reasons - it's also common in threads, rep like "you're right, this dude is stupid!" etc. I don't think bawx-rep would affect it badly (but that's just my opinion).

Also, we shouldn't forget why forums implemented rep/karma system at first place - to make members more active and helpful, it always leads to "trolling for rep" but also help potentially valuable members to get out of their caves and start contributing to community. good example is Relican (fresh news team member), he wasn't active here until he got rep from me after hes feedback (rly cool one actually) in my thread.
Actually same thing happen to me, first thread I contributed was simple guide I've made for my friend, I decided to share it for no particular reason and didn't intend to contribute anymore. It changed when 7it repepd me, I just felt appreciated, like someone rly like my work. That's why I'm here today and still contributing crappy articles.

Don't get me wrong Zoid, I love you, I love what you're doing for OwnedCore and I do appreciate things you've done for me (like correcting my articles x33) and I know you're one of the top contributors here since you're super moderator. by no means I don't want to accuse you for being lazy or something but you sure you're not saying that just because it means aditional work for moderators? You're probably right, it would encourage trolls to troll more but also valuable members to contribute.

I like that reference to me. :P I would still be a lurker had it not been for that.
I think this is a good idea, maybe if the rep given via bawx was limited to one rep per day the issue of people reaping for "Lulz nice imgur pic" could be avoided, and saved for actual help. I honestly can't say how many times I've received nearly instant help from people in the bawx, and in fact had never even considered being able to rep them for that help. It'd be a nice thing to be able to do (In moderation)

As I said, "It won't happen" and I'm not discussing it anymore, but personally I like the idea. Of course it's not perfect, but it could be - after some deep thinking on it + some work. I know mods are not working - WORKING here and they're not getting paid for it, so what I'm saying is I probably would do smth like that if i'd know how and if it would be up to me cause I like extra work as long as it's fun (you should already know that), but I don't expect anyone to do extra work just because few guys want extra feature. That's why I said it probably won't happen.
Just wanted to share my feelings about it (once again, I didin't intend to say someone is "not doing enough !!11!" / "could do more !!11!1"). mods are doing more than enough, none of them needs work for OC, but they still do - and that's awesome!

I like this idea, even though I dont currently have shoutbawx access-- but I plan on donating again soon.

I think this has potential for abuse, but I also think it has potential to be a good thing
everything on the site has potential for abuse in some way, and we are an exploit site so you have to assume ppl will try to exploit it
but saying "this wont happen" simply due to that fact doesnt seem fair to me either. I think as a moderator is is part of the job title to investigate matters such as this, and until it DOES become a problem its really not worthy of being shot down

I also agree that moderators shouldnt be spending 90% of their time doing this.... but I dont necessarily think it would take as much effort as you are prespecting it will.

Incredibly easy to implement but it's not going to be implemented. It would take so much moderating from us, and we're just not able to read the shoutbawks at all times.

AND just TODAY ´(Been here for 20 minutes) 2-3 people said "So close to XXX just need a few more rep" - imagine how this would explode if we could give rep from bawx..
