Hey I had a question. Is Gamehelper external or internal? If it just reads the map data and displays it externally then there is relatively speaking very little chance of a ban no?

external and what you are saying is true as long as you use limited user method and make sure that the GameHelper plugin that sends keyboard keys to the game (i.e. AutoHotKey) doesn't spam it. There is a built in anti-spam feature as well but ppl can turn it off by reducing the keyboard timeout. Also, there is a debug mode feature that shows you if AHK is spamming or not.

Generally speaking, it should be safe to use.

Lol there is no ban wave let's not spread misinformation.

One guy got banned, who knows what kind of strange shit was in his config.

I've been using GH and other tools for 8 years with no ban. I play every single league

I agree, I have heard nothing of a new banwave. They are clearly being more active in bans recently for scripts, but we don't know to what extent. I know bots have been impacted and so have SOME crafters. It does not seem to be a catch all of everyone, plus nobody knows what sort of delays everyone was using... if they got reported by another user (for example placing currency into a window way too quickly)... etc. I've been using ExileAPI/PoeHelper consistently for years with plugins and no ban here either. Even used ASH some early last league and I'm still good.
