People are right clicking, extract here, then dragging THAT extracted file called Guides and putting that into the RXP folder, which is causing the issue. I can pretty much guarentee this.

Change the name, this stops. Thats my advice to save you your sanity, take it or leave it.

You seem to take everyone asking for help as though theyre personally insulting you; theyre not. I for one was extremely polite.
Originally, it was called RXP, and it caused even worse problems. People installed it in the wrong location, then detected the RXP folder and placed it incorrectly. They deleted all the contents of the RXP folder and replaced it with the contents from my folder, which led to even more issues.

Now, you're claiming that you had trouble extracting a file to the RXP folder. You're saying you did it, but you didn’t.

So, you want me to change the process to fit your method, even though you couldn’t do it properly yourself, and that would only cause more problems.

The real issue here is people not following the instructions. They claim they did exactly what I said, but then admit they didn’t.

If you can't extract a folder to the correct location and overwrite it, I suggest you reconsider using this, as it seems too difficult.

You couldn't extract it to the RXP folder as intended. Instead, you claimed it was done correctly and extracted it to another location. Then, you admitted that it was installed in the wrong place after saying it was correct initially.

It seems like there was difficulty following the instructions, and instead of resolving it, the situation was made more complicated.

I regret that you even posted this.

I managed to get the level 20+ guides working at some point. It was about a week ago, and I used the method described for Macs: placing the classic era folder addon in the appropriate location and pasting in the downloaded guides (I used The Unarchiver and the merge method).

Everything was working fine on all my characters. By the way, I’m playing HC. Occasionally, I encountered some errors, so I decided a couple days ago to remove the addon entirely and reinstall it (using the same version via the Curse downloader). I also deleted the WTF files and variables from Curse.

After reinstalling everything (using the exact same method as before), the downloaded RestedXP addon stopped loading entirely.

I'm sorry but no, I think it wasn’t that simple. I tried again today doing the bit of a different method and got it to work.
    Maybe I did a mistake before but I don’t believe so :/

What worked for me on my Mac after RestedXP stopped loading guides:
    1. With CurseForge updater: Delete variables, delete add-on.
    2. Launch game with Battle.net.
    3. Go to a new realm, create a character, log out to the dark portal screen.
    4. With CurseForge updater: Install add-on.
    5. Log in to the character list on the new realm.
    6. Unarchive, copy Guides to RestedXP folder, choose “merge” (on windows add the new stuff and update the old stuff, but don’t delete anything, so when prompt older already exists, chose "decide for each file", "Replace the file" and "Apply to all")
    7. Connect to the new character, do the initial config, guides should appear.
    8. Log out and connect to your main character, guides should appear there as well.

    To install the addon:

Use the CurseForge updater to install it.
Download the addon and extract it to the RXP folder.

Regarding Mac installations, I don't use a Mac myself. However, if people took the time to read the instructions rather than rushing to grab the file, they would notice the full Mac installation guide. Kindly provided by @surrept.

Did you overwrite the files? I’ve updated a couple of them and added the rest.

Sorry, I thought you meant that you upgraded your files anad that I used an earlier version..

I "merged" on mac, that means overwriting the older files with yours while keeping the stock folder files (the ones that arent on the guides.rar)

Merging means replacing the files with the updated ones, provided they still exist.

I updated three files by adding more content to them.

The issue seems to be that people aren't merging or replacing the files as required. Instead, they add the guides without activating them, which leads to confusion about why they aren't showing up.

On mac the merging feature also add new files if there is

I'll try again when I get home tonight without creating a new real character

Perhaps you should specify on OP, copy the Guides folder in the RXPGuides folder (while specifying the exemple path) and explain a bit the final goal (being: adding your new guides files inside, overwriting some of the stock files while keeping all the necessary RXPGuides files)

Well for mac, there is a great guide provided by a forum member. Have you checked that?
But too many people, just take the file run and then do not even read how to install it sadly.

Yes man, I did read it
Yes man, I did what he wrote

Man, you sure you read what I wrote? I made the guides load first time trying, then it stopped loading altogether after installing a second time..

Using a Mac as nothing to do with all this, I was explaining what the merge button does, that's it.. I'm not saying that some people are not reading OP, I'm a saying that for some people, you should also specify the end goal. I think OP is pretty straightforward but I'm sure some will find it useful.

It will probably safe you some hassle

Well I cannot comment on mac, so I am going by the only instructions that someone provided.

If the same thing was done, you would have the same result.
There cannot be a different result, if you did the exact same thing twice.
