    Swapping .adt files?

Is it possible to replace one .adt file with another to change the terrain? I attempted this and it crashed when entering the changed area.

I used MWCS to locate an area just south of thunder bluff (Kalimdor_32_35.adt) by estimating the location and then looking at each landscape directly. Then, I picked an essentially random .adt to replace it with (Kalimdor_32_10.adt).

    replaced: World\Maps\Kalimdor\Kalimdor_32_35.adt
    with: World\Maps\Kalimdor\Kalimdor_32_10.adt
(these are both found in the terrain.mpq archive)

Then, using MPQMaster 1.2.0, I made a new mpq, patch-8.mpq, and inserted Kalimdor_32_10.adt
I then renamed it to World\Maps\Kalimdor\Kalimdor_32_35.adt

Now, when I load the game, there are no problems, however when I approach the area south of thunder bluff (even in thunder bluff) there is a The data could not be "read" error (with blizzard's huge error report).

Is this a protection blizzard has placed on the files or did I mess up somewhere? Also, is there a way to modify *.adt files directly? (shifting vertexes and so forth)

    Hope you can help

If you are just gonna do 1 file, i wouldnt suggest using MPQ master, normally i use MWS to add one file first, then add the rest. And yes it is 100% possible, otherwise me walking around in unreleased instances was just a lie

THANK YOU! It seems that was the problem completely. Sigh, first I use WinMPQ which doesn't work for wow, then I use MPQ master which also doesn't work for wow (or at least the defult settings aren't correct for a wow mpq).

Time for me to have tons of fun now

MPQ master does work, its just you cant create folders with it to my knowledge, thats why u make the first with MWS

    Re: Swapping .adt files?

I think I've been able to make folders with MPQ Master just fine (simply rename a file to "foldername\file" and reload the archive). My problem is that it seems when I created the archive with MPQ Master and import the files into it wow is unable to properly utilize them.

For example, when I changed my ThunderBluff portals to Dark Portals using MPQ Master it made my portals invisible (no model could be seen). Also, as I said above, when I made that terrain edit, wow crashed. MPQ Master showed the files in the proper places, just somehow the mpq was either corrupted or in an invalid format. My guess is that the default hash table size and block size in MPQ Master arn't what wow uses.

Regardless, MWCS works great and now I have my portals as darkportals

EDIT: It seems when I add files to an MPQ with MPQ Master they get corrupted (or at least they are unviewable by MWCS and wow has them be blank models).

You can use MyWarCraftStudio to open mpqs in the data folder and view the .adt files. Most of them are located in terrain.mpq

I think you can download MWCS at http://www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/a...aftstudio.html but it may be outdated (and have file renaming issues).
