Someone teach me how to world build?

I looked through a bunch a guides and understand the terminology, Noggit doesnt work on my computer and I dont get how to use some of the programs I have, It would be great if someone knowledgable could teach me at least enough to put world objects on a map and or molding the landscape/retexturing.
