Stay on topic or I will need to clean out posts and possibly hand out infractions. That includes you as well MadameGrip, if you don't have anything constructive to say you do not need to post.

From what I can tell, jcmaddox1 is giving an honest attempt to try to figure this thing out, why not help him instead of being against him?

Oh and staarwind, why is the thread pointless? It's a still on-going discussion that still is progressing. If you find something is wrong: please report it and a moderator will take decision whether or not it is, instead of you posting - unless you have anything else to add.

would changing ACLS on mpqs forbidiing wow.exe to write any changes to them and just read game data be a possible solution? or is that stupid/would bugger up the game. with a group policy you could limit an executables ability to modify certain files.

The patcher doesn't copy all MPQs, only the bases.
Excuse me but I still have my shadow paladin model edits from vanilla. I can only remove them if I reinstall. They are completely melded into the game files.

Model editing isn't dead per say, its just that alliance now has badass worgen and horde has homoerotic goblin and almost nobody feels the need to use custom skins anymore which is sad.
Do we think the ladies have gone too far with the sex-positive feminism? They say theyre down with the pornography and whatnot but is this really the path to liberation?

(im new to this, but it seems like a reasonable plan to me)
Yea, this works it happened to me once. I on accident left the edit in and the launcher updated it because I started it and had to bio. It left the edit in the game permanently even when i took the edit out thinking my wow had corrupted. The problem is that I left the edit in once before that and it ruined my wow and I had to reinstall.

Hmm, well it seems like if we could make the game not recognize it as a corruption then it would work, ill work on it, thanks

I guess when you install BC - (as edits still merged then during patches (might also be WotLK, not sure)) - and then upgrade to Cata - you get a permanently 'damaged' / 'merged' model edit infused MPQ - hoping that it doesn't update in any other future 'patch'.

This however gives the issue, that if you want to change the model edits you have, you're stuck installing...
