[Discussion] Model Editing might not be Dead!

Okay, so basically i was just reading one of the posts on this site, about someones model edit being patched into his game, and it still working, so what i was thinking, was that if we could downgrade to 4.0.1 when model edits still worked, we could then re-patch the game, and the model edit might still work? (im new to this, but it seems like a reasonable plan to me)

yeah but what im saying is leave the model edit int o patch with the other mpqs that should work, because it would be coding the edit into your game.

Of course im being serious, if you leave the edit in while the game patches, its patched into the game.

i see how you are thinking and where you are coming from on this. unfortunately that would not be
possible because the the patcher generated by blizzard expects, so to speak a certain hash of client data.
leaving modded client data in the data directory would just result in a patch build error.

EXCEPT the fact, that it would get its patch Data, and some extra Data aswell, so therefor, there would be no errors.

You cannot patch your game with custom MPQs active. It currently does one of two things:
    1. Write over your custom MPQ
    2. Not let you patch.

Both of those options are fairly forgiving, considering in the old days if you tried to patch with a custom MPQ your game data became corrupted and you had to completely reinstall.

The patcher doesn't copy all MPQs, only the bases.

Maybe if i Were to Use and MPQ editor and import the custom MPQ models in, then patch the MPQ back up, that might work, as in, add the Data to your game?

no, hash check. yes the check does or in the past did not go beyond the scope of the original existing mpq archives. which is where adding archives in numerical or string sequence such as patch3 or patch came about.

i dont currently play on live, so i cant tell you for sure as i havent diven deep into the instruction set of the latest client. i work with my own emulator on 1.12.1

in 1.12.1 i can prevent the scan using win api calls such as writeprocessmemory, but i dont know the deal with the current client. i would assume its not much different.

The model editing section isn't dead, just because you leechers can't get edits for 4.x

We're just stuck at 3.3.5.. so if you want to leech something, you have to play on a private server, simple as that :P
