    [WIP][Custom Model] Dark Matter Blade

    UPDATE 28-03-2010

    first of all THANKS Tigurius for helping me out ALL THE TIME much <3

    Soon i will be able to release things are looking up



    Hey guys whats up

    so i been working on and off on this model for a long time but its finaly getting somewhere. The model is 1640 triangles.

    At the moment i am really bizy painting the texture .. but takes forever. I think like a good 7-10 hours went into what i painted up till now.

    srsl. just plain awesome. the level of detail you put into this is just astounding. this can easily compete with some of blizzards finest.

    people like you make me jealous that i don't have any drawing skills, like, at all. :X

    Oh-my-god, that is absolutely fantastic work! :O Props to the pro, never seen such a detailed and well-made piece of work.. To be honest, that ain't just a custom model, that's fickin art.

    Nice :O Go World of Starcraft or WoW: 1000 Year after Lich King! xD
    Edit: if possible, use a little less triangles for it (without destroying the nice look ofc!!) 1600 is much

    yah i know its quite alot for a WoW model. But at this point i can't really cut back on triangles anymore. because i clean up my models quite alot before laying out the UV's.

    main problem is the concept of this blade, because the idea is it exists out of blocks held together by dark matter or whatever. So it needed to have alot of things sticking out and that increases the triangle count quite alot. But next time ill try to push it back to below 1000 triangles atleast.

    @zaphry: i do em for myself so that my weapons in wow are all shiny and different xD

    Was this modelled in maya? if so i was wondering how u convert teh models :S

    yes this is made in maya. And what i always do is when its done export it to an .OBJ file. To get the option to export to .OBJ files you need to turn an option on first.

    in maya go Windows-> Preferense/settings-> Plug-in manager

    then put on ObjExport.mll

    now the obtion to export to OBJ files should be enabled.

    (if the OBJexport.mll file is not in your maya then download Maya Bonustools of the official site. Not sure if you need a legit version of maya to do that, but stil.)

    then when i got the OBJ file i just open 3ds max. Import the file. Do so minor fixing of whatever broke, Add some options like 2sided textures and alpha if needed on some textures, scale it and then export it to an .3ds file.

    after that its just the normal routine.

    protip: If your models turn black in WoW after making it .m2 files it just means you didnt trianglute your model before exporting it to an .OBJ file. I remember spending HOURS of converting back and forth and not getting why it didnt work properly xD

    Really nice model, Impressive

    Did you know, u can make some nice money out of it?

    Put models like these on websites were u can let them pay a price per model download..
    Alot of companies will buy it instead of hiring employees who make it, know some friends that have earned quite a bit by doin that with even crappy models.
