    How To: Ret DPS

So I finally got tired of seeing idiot paladins doing 1500 dps when they should be doing at least 2k in the gear they have. Here is just a short little explaination for Ret paladins out there wanting to get more from their toon. Hopefully this helps someone:

    1. Spec
If you want to do top end dps, spec for top end dps. This means no holy, no imp HoJ, etc.. PVP spec = Fail for dps. You want to be 0-5-66 for sure.

    2. Seals
If you are using Seal of Command to DPS, you are doing it wrong. Simply by changing to Seal of Blood you will increase your dps.

    3. Judgements
It is extremely important to keep judgement of wisdom up on the target/boss. If you go OOM, it is probably your own fault. Discuss what other paladins are judging in the group to make sure this is happening.

    4. Glyphs
Minor: Sense undead is the only one that "technically" helps your dps
Major: Get Judgement, Consecrate (longer duration means less mana used), and Seal of Blood

    5. Rotation
Here is the important part, the rotation. If you are a paladin then you have noticed our dps is reliant on more than one spell. You MUST hit your cooldowns and know which spells to use first when multiple come up at the same time.
To start go JUDGE>DS>CS>CONS. This is the order you will always use when all spells are off CD.

Consecrate must be up all the time as it adds about 300dps to your 10 man dps.

This order should for the most part keep your CDs seperate, once in a while CS and Judgement will come up at the same time. In that event use CS first and your timing will be back how it should be.

On top of that use Avenging Wrath/trinkets as often as possible, just make sure it is availible for heroism/bloodlust time.

Divine Plea should be used when you get to about 75% mana, though mana probably will not be a problem.

So thats it, I can safely promise that if you do the above suggestions you WILL see a dps improvement without making a single change to your gear. Hope this helps someone.

just saying 0-5-66 isnt really helpful at all, try linking a spec.

My mistake, should be fixed. Eye for an Eye isnt ideal (for PVE) if you prefer to swap out for Seal of Command for a PVP option.

If you're only speccing for PvE it's way better to take this specc:
    WorldofWarcraft.com -> Info -> Classes -> Paladin -> Talent Calculator

BoK is a great buff for other people
SoC for those raid intensive healing battles it might be better to use this one, also i personally always use this in PvP and Solo grinding, makes it just that bit easier.

Eye for an Eye is almost useless in PvE and so is Vindication, Divine purpose could sometimes save your life, but i'd prefer a raidwize buff instead of it.

Maybe you could add more numbers into your post. Like why is Seal of Command so bad? and how much does the other seal increase your dps by etc...

Couple of talents in your spec that dont improve dps at all. Quite frankly you should be doing 1500 dps once you get the Amphitheater weapon (so 75-ish) and up to 1700-1800 as a fresh 80 in quest blues.

Seal of Blood glyph is useless. it's multiplicative, that means you get 10% of the 10% you already have, so 1%. get Glyph of Spiritual Attunement instead. it's additive. if you have mana problems( normally you won't) take consecration(saves about 4% "base mana" every consecration) if not: Glyph of Avenging Wrath.

Ofcourse you get SoC. If you're using SoB/M on Loatheb you really are a Retardin.

    This spec is far superior.

And the DPS rotation is broken on ret atm. And how to begin it depends on what libram you're using aswell. Lets say you got Venture Co. Libram of Retribution, then you propably open up with a DS and then judge.

Wow... Okey so let's break it down step by step.

    1. Spec
    0-5-56? Zomg..Okey here what's wrong:
    1. Eye for an Eye and vindication is the four most useless points you will ever spend! Eye for an Eye because it's just.. Well.. Why are you getting hit? Sure, you will in some encounters, but bosses AoE dmg does not get reflected. So the only reason would be if you over aggro the tank (and suddenly you got other, more important problems then your spec!). Vindication does simply not work on bosses, making it useless.
    2. Divine Purpose is also super useless... I wont explain why, people that don't see why, does not deserve an explanation.

So go with Phreec's spec, it's the best one for raiding atm.

    2. Seals
Semi-agreed. But at stated above, Loatheb is a great of example of times you need to use SoC

    3. Judgements
Nothing there to change, I agree with using JoW

    4. Glyphs
Glyph of Seal of Blood? It's not additive, it's multiplicative. Meaning, it does not give you 10% more mana from SA. It gives and 10% extra of the 10%. So, you wont gain 20% mana from SA, but 11%. Making it rather usless.
    I would suggest:
Glyph of Divinity - Item - World of Warcraft
Glyph of Hammer of Wrath - Item - World of Warcraft
Glyph of Spiritual Attunement - Item - World of Warcraft
Choose the one you think will benefit you the most. I've gone with LoH, since I sometimes go holy for raids, and I can't be arsed to change glyphs everytime (plus, using on myself give me full mana when retri).

    5. Rotation
Divine Storm, is ALWAYS, does not matter what libram you have, it's ALWAYS last priority.
Judge -> Conc -> Crusader Strike -> Divine Storm
Use the above prios for maximum dps and the benefits from different spells(mostly thinking of Judgement).

About Divine Plea. After your first rotation, there will be time to use DP, w/o it affecting the other spells. So use it as soon as possible, after that you use it whenever it's of CD (ofc after Divine Storm in priority).

Okay, the spec I can agree with changing, whatever. The rotation however is correct. Instead of actually trying what I said why dont all the people who havn't been playing ret for 4 years blast my methods? SoC IS LOWER DPS RIGHT NOW. Bottem Line.

Divine Storm comes second in the rotation due to its cooldown length, the fact that it heals you (thus you can use seal of blood the entire raid), and the fact that it usually hits harder than CS.

For Lotheb, you should STILL use Seal of Blood, between the judgement of light on him and your DS going off you should not die. If for some reason you are in dire need you can change to seal of light for a few seconds then back to blood.

Vindication worthless? Well, since about 85% of the raid time is spent fighting trash that this DOES work on, I choose to take it to speed up my guilds raids.

And lastly, Divine Purpose is most definantly a raid talent. You can save a healer/tanks life with Blessing of Freedom and taking 4% less hits means you dont need as many heals.

Please don't flame if you don't even try it.

We let our paladins use Seal of the Martyr on Loatheb on heroic. It's not like that fight is hard to heal through. o.O

Remember to have your holy paladins shield groups, and you'll be fine.

    Semo off topic, semi on.

DS hits harder only if there are multiple enemies. Crusader Strike with all the affecting talents AKA the art of war is 121% weapon damage plus the seal, while Divine Storm with AoW is 110%. Tell me how DS Usually hits harder.

And while you tell about supporting the raid with 4% spell avoidance instead of BoK, really, check your facts.

I'd Also say vindication is MORE worthless than BoK, and after raiding whole way through tbc as belf ret, I can say that you really do want seal of command to be an option when the raid is about to wipe in the last percents. 3k selfcrits really do take some time to be healed, depending on the raidsetup.
