Although gnomes were not in the lore it was mentioned in certain items in WC3 that they come from some kind of gnomish engineering, similar to the goblins. I think the human flying units in WC3 were "Built" by gnomish engineers, although I can't confirm it directly. - Gnomes are alright in my book - I can't hate a fellow ally

Gnomes for me are gr8. For example gnome warriors tanking big raid bosses
