As a first post here and on the forum in general i'm going to just randomly shout out places i have read via the wiki.

Some obvious places would be to start with The prison of yogg saron. Possibly get a group made up and try it in the general area - While battling him - While inside his head - While under the effects of 100% insanity.

Since he was responsible for the curse of flesh turning small robots into the gnomes you see today you could think of Gnomergan but where the item would fit in there i have no idea. But wiki has some info on that here - Curse of Flesh - WoWWiki - Your guide to the World of Warcraft

Reading up on his three visions i can't really find information on them apart from some old W3 videos.

Reading up more Yogg has tainted a tree whose roots had reached his prison. Vordrassil. If you were to go there you can see mobs that have been turned insane. Possible location to open up ???

But what really gets me thinking is "Saronite" - "Throughout Northrend, deposits of a mysterious ore named "Saronite" can be found, which is called "The Black Blood of Yogg-Saron" by the Tuskarr people and who advise any who will listen to keep their distance from it. Saronite is capable of driving any who come into contact with it to violent insanity, and it appears to be a type of byproduct of the Old God's physical manifestation. "
Now where can we find Saronite references in the game? Only one that strikes to mind is in the Pit of Saron but i can't see how the item could be used there but it's still a possible location.

We also have the faceless ones but thinking alongside insanity there are too many places to check. Ulduar - The old kingdom - Darkspeaker R'khem inside the Saronite Mines in Icecrown.

Also Master's Glaive might be a good place to check.

What i would really like to find out is if any information can be found out of any WoW books that have been released in the past. As i learnt from blizzcon footage the people that read them get a better sense of lore and backgrounds behind NPC's etc etc that we won't know. So if anyone knows anyone that knows that Yogg Saron is in any books that could help us get one step closer.

Edit: Could we also consider that the orb at the bones could be a possible teleport location. Example: Using the box at the correct place/time and you could be teleported into that orb?

But random reward systems whose long-term goals are more interesting than the short term ones can feel grindy. Archaeology had too much travel time. It could be punishingly random, especially for players who imagined that it would be a guaranteed delivery mechanism for Zin’rokh (which was never the intention). Players missed a lot of the lore, which was delivered in the Archaeology journal and not as part of the survey or digging experience. We think the Mists of Pandaria expansion will be really good for Archaeology. Players will be focused on a couple of new races on a single continent, so travel and randomness will be reduced automatically, and leveling Archaeology should be a bit more convenient since there will be more opportunities to dig at a single site. We have other tricks up our sleeve too.

Two lines I like: "Players missed a lot of the lore", and "We have other tricks up our sleeve". Both of these might offer hooks for questions to GMs.

But maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see...

Afaik, there is no book about yogg saron Uppermost. (i've read them all)

For the lovecraftian references i could make a summary if you want as i'm really into it.
But the easiest thing is THE BLACK FOREST/GOAT QUOTES = Shub-Niggurath - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Shub-niggurath, “The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young”.
The story that comes in my mind is about this guy that went in a forest (don't remember why) and in the night i hear things, he goes out and discover this giant black stone and see shub-niggurath.

THE SUNKEN CITY/OCEAN QUOTES is obviously speaking about Cthulhu that is emprisoned in R'lyeh, the sunken city of non euclidean proportions.

Y'knath k'th'rygg k'yi mrr'ungha gr'mula. This is a reference to the beasts language. The few written speaches we have in lovecraft are :
    - Aye, engengah, Yogge-Sothotha / to summon Yog-Sothoth
    - Iä ! Iä ! Cthulhu fthagn / to worship Cthulhu.
    - Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn / "In his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming." which is what the necronomicon tells about cthulhu. The great old ones emprisoned him in the sunken city of R'lyeh (they are the good guys, just like the titans). Followed by a prophecy about his return.
Faceless speaking in wow and some translations here :
Faceless (language) - Wowpedia - Your wiki guide to the World of Warcraft

I don't see anything that can relate to this quote so it's either random or says something really different..

Btw the box can be an easter egg to hellraiser : http://images.wikia.com/cenobite/ima...6/The_box!.jpg (when it opens it has spikes too on the side and do weird stuff)

That explains it then... it hasn't been a quest reward in some time. You got it while the gettin' was good. It is now an extremely rare (1/8000, iirc) drop rate.

I only have 135 pets, but I would love a Darter.

    About that black goat thing:
File:Shub-Niggurath.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
That stone formation there kinda reminds me of the mushroom circle in the whispering forest. It's maybe not directly useful, but I thought it was worth sharing.

I am not sure if this has been posted yet and I've missed it... but I found it interesting to the puzzle.

The whispers mention the city of Ny'alotha in three different whispers. There is a Wowpedia page for Ny'alotha which has some theories... that page can be found here:

Ny'alotha - Wowpedia - Your wiki guide to the World of Warcraft

*edit: Also, for some of you looking to see some great footage of the Dragon & orb in Vash'jir, check out the 2:20 minute mark of Parce's offline explorations video here:

I've been following this thread too, had a ticket open which got responded to whilst reading this, so I asked about the box at the end, though the GM kept it short

Me: I was checking out archaeology and saw the puzzle box of yogg saron, I know it whispers stuff to you, but it is actually openable? or just a vanity item?
GM: need you can just need to keep trying

his answer is kinda messy with the "need" at the start? though in the previous stuff we talked about he had made spelling mistakes and missed punctuation so maybe it was just a typo, maybe he meant "indeed" at the start instead? he seemed eager to leave though before I could ask any more questions, I took a screenshot of it but don't think I can post images or links yet

this only way he whas able to get it. whas in furborg form + sitting on a muskroom asoon he stands its gone + when furborg whas gone it whas gone. also i whas only able to see it he whasnt able to see it so.... what is this???
This is extremely interesting to me. I went up to the mushroom circle last night with my friend; after farming out the Blessing of the Old God, to try and use that in combination with the box. Since I have the furbolg illusion item also, I thought I would try it and see if I had any sort of glow effect when I sat down. To my surprise I did, and it was green in color. However I myself could not see the magic effect, but my friend could see it (he shared his screen on skype and took a screen shot i will post later). When he tried his furbolg form and sat down he had no glowing effect about him on my screen or his screen (he does not have the puzzle box or the blessing of the old god). There are seven drakes there that do the ritual, so far there have been two reported glowing colors..... maybe we get some more people with the puzzle box &/or blessing of the old god to go up there with a friend to see if they can witness any different glowing colors when you /sit in furbolg form.

What is the tie-in between the mushroom circle and Furbolgs? I know one of the posters had the SS with the blue glow effect, but what made him try Furbolg at the circle in the first place? Is there a lore connection there?

I have the original Dartol's Rod of Transformation (which only has a 1 MINUTE cooldown)... I'll have to get in on all this Furbolg fun...

Yeah, before going crazy about something does it have a link with the pox ? I don't see how the circle and what the box says is related in any way :/

    @x40xcalx and joell28

Can you post any more info about your faerie circle experience? Absolutely anything. For example, was the ritual happening when you were there or not? Were all the darters there, or none?

@x40xcalx, are you saying that the glow effect you saw was a different colour from the one in joell28's pics?

What class/race are you and your friend?

Did you try any other shapeshift forms besides furbolg? Whether by item or by class ability (druid, shaman)?

What pets/companions did you have out?

And to anybody else: has this weird glowy effect been reported by anyone, ever before? Or is this a genuine discovery?

All this, along with the clearest confirmation yet reported by Tgwmos... this is really going somewhere.

Thanks for that, jjshadoe. Great link!

@Nyarly: I was asking about the connection of the Puzzle Box to the Furbolgs. I do believe there could be a connection of the Box to the Mushroom Circle, as mentioned in the Ny'alotha link I posted above (and further theorized in jjshadoe's link).

The Whispering Forest and Whisper Gulch have to be seriously considered when dealing with a whispering Puzzle Box and a whispering Old God, IMO.
