May not mean much or anything at all, but the first thing that comes to mind is the Karazhan crypts.
May not mean much or anything at all, but the first thing that comes to mind is the Karazhan crypts.
:O I have a theory about where to open this. Someone please try this. I believe it is at the upsidedown sinners room in the Karahan crypt
1. At the bottom of the ocean even light must die.
It is a room filled with water (an ocean) or an ocean of sin and evil? (this one is a far fetched one)
2. Even death may die.
The sinners held there would die hanging on a chain, impaled. So drowning while impaled?
3. You will all be alone in the end.
No one saved them, no one knew.
4. All places, all things have souls. All souls can be devoured
The crypt has souls in it, and Kharazan itself holds, or devours, the souls.
5. You resist. You attempt to cling to your life as if it actually matters. You'll learn.
Some say the upside down sinners are bnned players. So, they believe that they are important and they learned from what they did to get banned? If they are noot banned players, they still must have done something wrong.
6. In the sunken city, he lays dreaming.
This one is also a stretch, but the souls still wander, but the men are dead.
7. The void sucks at your soul. It is content to feast slowly.
Their souls are devoured and they have been being absorbed since the legion came through the portal?
8. What can change the nature of a man?
The nature of man is sin.
9. The giant rook watches from the dead trees. Nothing breaths beneath its shadows.
Kharazan looms over the crypt.
10. The fish know all the secrets. They know the cold. They know the dark.
The fish could be in the water? Or the fish are the sinners.
11. Open me! Open me! Open me! Then only you will know peace.
Peace form curiosity? Pandora's box? That would be a sin?
Well... This was very farfetched so it probably wont work.... But its worth a shot. I know of 3 upside down sinners. One is under kara, one is in the crypts, and one is in stratholme. I dont think you can go to the one under ara anymore and strathholme is not kara. This was all pretty farfetched and religous based.... This has nothing to do with Yog and only 8 and 9 make sense... but maybe someone can keep this going? I am really determined to keep this thread alive.
nvm, you can get into the lower crypts by using noggerfrogger elixer to mount into the wall and slowfall through the gap. Can someone please try both? And maybe the one in Strathollme (or was it scholomance :P) too?
If you can provide me a gm log with a somehow proof it can be opened i come back to wow and open it myself.
Has anyone tried opening the box on a private server as a GM? Yeah, it'll ruin the fun of the challenge but just to see if it's possible.. Y'know, not dying from the fatigue while trying to swim to that orb and all that jazz..
I was just wondering due GMs' moods - maybe after tickets (not for that but as extra "do you have any other question which I could help You with") anyone of them could open it for player =) ?
The problem isn't dying of fatigue, its going past the end of the world and falling to your death. (eg. Eye of the Storm). We should be spending more time on collecting a bank of theories/ideas to test rather than a way to get to ONE place (though I do admit it is one of the best.) We should also think that maybe the op's original translations are WRONG. Let us think of objectively here and build upon what we are given, while still having the option to tear it all down.
I completely agree with you. We have to remember that GM's are still people, so anything is possible.

Please, anyone? Doing shadowmourne ATM so I might get the box.
This is my take on the puzzle box. It can't be opened now, but it is something that could play a role in the future.
In a recent interview Dave Kosak was asked whether there was anything under Tirisfal (Warcraft Interview: Dave Kosak - 2 NERDS, 1 LORE (Patch 5.4 and beyond) - YouTube, skip to 21:01). He didn't answer directly, but his reply was relevant to our thread: "This is the dirty secret: sometimes there are just hooks that are there that we can do something with later if we have a really good idea for it. And I would say that Tirisfal is one of those thingsā¦"
... And the PB is clearly one of those hooks too.
How awesome would it be if the pre-patch of the Queen Azshara/Ny'alotha expansion (whenever that happens) gave the PB new whispers. They foreshadow the storyline. They hint how the PB might actually be opened. Some players (us, I'd hope!) figure it out and eventually open the PB. This event triggers the first act of the unfolding drama. I imagine something along the lines of the opening act of Cata, when we had occasional earthquakes and random 'elemental disturbances' that spawned angry mobs. I'd love to see something like this, and I hope this thread has helped convince anyone watching at Blizz that they should do it.
But then again not all the hooks get developed, so it might never happen.
I completely agree! The PB hook is probably the best hook in-game and I'm sure Blizzard knows this! Lets keep brainstorming for now and see what happens.![]()
I'm pretty sure that GM was the ultimate troll and the box can't be opened
Ok. I am going to update this thread in the hopes that people will come back to help me. First off, I think 5.4 and 5.5 is THE patch. The sha/old gods Pandaland have been thought of PRE-BC! This gives plenty of time for blizz to put it in. Proof: MoP not just randomly new - Forums - World of Warcraft
Ok, next up is updating the sounds from the box. I will be adding to the list and from now on a theory must fit in ALL categories.
Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron whispers you one upon use:
At the bottom of the ocean even light must die
The silent, sleeping, staring houses in the backwoods always dream. It would be merciful to tear them down.
There is no sharp distinction between the real and the unreal.
Even death may die.
There is a little lamb lost in dark woods.
All places, all things have souls. All souls can be devoured.
What can change the nature of a man?
The stars sweep chill currents that make men shiver in the dark.
You will all be alone in the end.
Do you dream while you sleep or is it an escape from the horrors of reality?
Look around. They will all betray you. Flee screaming into the black forest.
In the land of Ny'alotha there is only sleep.
In the sleeping city of Ny'alotha walk only mad things.
Ny'alotha is a city of old, terrible, unnumbered crimes.
Y'knath k'th'rygg k'yi mrr'ungha gr'mula.
The void sucks at your soul. It is content to feast slowly.
The drowned god's heart is black ice.
It is standing right behind you. Do not move. Do not breathe.
Have you had the dream again? A black goat with seven eyes that watches from the outside.
In the sunken city, he lays dreaming.
Open me! Open me! Open me! Then only will you know peace.
You resist. You cling to your life as if it actually matters. You will learn.
The tortured spirits of your ancestors cling to you, screaming in silence. Apparently they are quite numerous.
The fish know all the secrets. They know the cold. They know the dark.
The giant rook watches from the dead trees. Nothing breathes beneath his shadow.
Beneath the shadow of the darkened spire, there is no light, no mercy, only void, and the chaos within.
I will now be talking about a couple things. N'Zoth is responsible for the Emerald Nightmare (thus the references to dreams and dreaming scattered throughout the various Puzzle Box whispers). The likelihood is that the clues in the Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron tell us is that the next Old God to resurface (N'Zoth or the one after him) is located in or around this city of Ny'alotha (which may be what the Old Gods call Nazjatar), so will probably be a raid entirely done underwater. We also know that each Old God will have some sort of organ that we need.
(Created to Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron - Item - World of Warcraft)
Most of the Yogg-Saron "clues" are phrase from the book called: The Call of Cthulhu by H. P. Lovecraft. one the of the most popular is Even death may die. When you ask a Gm about that they can say Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Yogg'Saron wgah'nagl fhtagn which is another phrase from the book "ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" and it means "In his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming".
"What can change the nature of a man?" is the direct quote and important theme from "Planescape:Torment".
"You resist. You cling to your own life as if it actually matters. You will learn." is a direct quote from another Infinity Engine game, Baldur's Gate 2, Jon Irenicus. (Awesomely voiced by David Werner. Fun fact, Jim Cummings, who voiced Minsc in BG2, also voices Lorewalker Cho.)
These are the quotes explicitlly refering to Ny'alotha:
In the land of Ny'alotha there is only sleep...
In the sleeping city of Ny'alotha walk only mad things
Ny'alotha is a city of old, terrible, unnumbered crimes...
Y'shaarj's realm is visited when fighting Garrosh and it seems according to the dialog that the Realm of Y'shaarj, Ny'alotha and the black forest are all one and the same.As for this quote:
In the sunken city, he lays dreaming.
That could refer to either N'zoth or the fact that Y'shaarj's containment cell was buried under one of the Sacred Pools.
Have you had the dream again? A black goat with seven eyes that watches from the outside.
I'm pretty sure this is Y'Shaarj. Seven eyes, seven heads...

In conclusion this is one of many posts to come. But I did all this with 10min of spare time and a thirst for adventure and curiosity. So lets work on this together and make this thread even more amazing!
N'Zoth is supposedly sleeping under some sea according to what Malfurion Stormrage sensed at the Rift of Aln inside the Emerald Dream. This makes so much sense. I do not understand all of the whispers. Understanding them all will complete the puzzle of the Puzzle Box.
Oh, also, in 1 of his whispers he says "Y'knath k'th'rygg k'yi mrr'ungha gr'mula". Uhm.... Yeah. We need to work on this one...
How do we finish Yogg-Sarons puzzle? What is his connection to N'Zoth? We know that N'Zoth is in Pandaria, is the puzzle box already able to be opened? Or do we have to wait for a future patch?
Btw fatigue shouldn't be much of a problem anymore with Falling Flame - Item - World of Warcraft![]()
