    Nefarian - Prevent Shadowflame Breath

Heres a little exploit/bug our tanks discovered the other day while attempting Nef HM.

If you spam backpeddle during Ony/Nef's breath it sometimes negates the breath entirely, this made Tank healing in P1 & P3 trivial as our tanks were able to prevent about 50%+ of the shadowflame breaths over the entire duration of the encounter.

They hadn't perfected the exploit but were able to reproduce it several times during the encounter, not really sure what was the specific cause but they found spamming backpeddle anytime during the breath cast would sometimes prevent it entirely, in some cases the breath would play the annimation but cause no damage.

    Enjoy Nef HM made easy.

When you say "spamming backpedal" do you mean just holding the s key and steadily go backwards, or are you pushing it down and letting go in very rapid succession?

It would seem rapid movements, even strafing seems to work.

Managed to reset a few before.

its totally random if he abborts his breath.
i'm tanking nef every week and he just randomly stops his breath without me moving at all
has nothing to do with spamming the "S" key

Sounds like the breath randomly stopping is perfectly normal and I have an explanation because it happens often to me when tanking Ony. It's called a full resist. When nef/ony first casts their breath, the spell has a binary check for resisting the initial cast when it finishes; The higher your shadow resist is (or fire, or whatever the damage is), the higher chance you can full resist the breath. If you don't full resist the cast, then you take 3 ticks of breath, which can be partially resisted. Propping up your resist with prismatic elixirs, or the BH resist trinket will increase the chance of a full resist.

If the breath is stopping between the 1st and 3rd tick of damage though, then that's something else entirely.

TL;DR: Working as intended. Backpedal/strafe has nothing to do with breaths stopping.

The other covered resetting the swing timer, through similar means.

@ Garneth - Whilst moving during the casting of the breath (1sec) you can reset it, either by spamming backpeddle/strafe et.

@ Blehmeh - if it is indeed resetting as you are describing that would mean our tanks would have had to roll the RNG dice and roll a 100 each time, so to speak. We've manage to go 4 attempts with only 1 breath from Onyxia/Nefarian going out randomly and a few following that with 0 Breaths in phase 1.

Note: we were unfortunate enough not to have any priests to provide shadow resistance aura, we're healing this with 2 Pallys and a Shammy, our resistance is limited to Resist Aura.

A video would be cool to confirm this. I hope it works this evening when we´re trying nef.
