I finally pulled this off, whew. It was much more frustrating to obtain than even my ghost wolf. There's a lot of information in this thread and elsewhere, and much of it is pre-patch. It's a bit hard to say what is current and what is obsolete, so let me just detail what worked for me. Though it may seems redundant given all the info in this thread, it may be helpful to someone to have it all laid out:

    1. I got the quest on my 84 hunter. I had to do a few prereq quests first.
    2. Target the pig.
    3. Trap-launch a freeze trap.
    4. Pop Berserking.
    5. Toss the torch.
    6. Cast Tame.
    7. Cast Revive, then cancel the cast.
    8. Relog.
    9. Cast Revive.

Throwing the torch triggers the GCD, and it kills the pig in 7 seconds. With Berserking, Tame was a 7-second cast, so I had to adjust the travel time of the torch via my distance to the pig/trough so the timing all lined up precisely. You cannot spam Revive (triggered the GCD even though I was casting Tame at the time, go figure); you just have to start it precisely when Tame finishes.

When done correctly, the pig falls over dead and instantly despawns without ever displaying the leveled-up graphic. My character pane showed a non-flaming pig, but he was smoking hot when I got back in game and rezzed him.

Thanks to the OP and the other contributors for a really cool pet!

This works, did it yesterday first try. I have a Logitech G15 keyboard and just made a keyboard-macro to spam a button containing the script provided in the OP's post with a 10ms delay. Started taming, at 5 seconds left before tame finished my friend lit the boar on fire as I held down my macro THE ENTIRE TIME. As soon as the cast finished the boar disappeared; I relogged and the boar was there. Very simple, don't understand why people are having difficulty, there really isn't any timing required... you can just spam the shit out of the macro throughout the whole duration of your "Tame Beast" channel. For people not willing to write additional macros to spam the key maybe have a macro with a maximum amount of lines containing the original script and spam that, might be more effective.

Maybe make sure you have one of your 5 "Call Pet" spots open?

EDIT: An earlier poster eluded to other pets that you can do this to (with permanent graphic effects). Can someone list them here specifically (or make a new thread) so we can start a collection of mobs this works on before it gets fixed?

I only know of a few

-Bats/bears in the Blasted Lands with the feltaint debuff do 15% more damage and have a green cloud in their mouths but the effect is gone when they die
    -Ink stained pets
-Wolf with the dagger through his heart in EPL

    - Trap the boar with freezing trap and start taming (make sure the boar is near such food thingy).
    - After 3 seconds you should use the flaming torch on another character.
    - The boar will die while caught in fire and at the exact same time you should finish your cast.
    - Spam revive pet right after tame pet fishished.
    - No need for any macro whatsoever.
This way was confirmed also, found it to work better than post

He was looking for permanent graphics.
The Blasted Lands mobs are not permanent effects. They go away with death.

The full list of permanent graphics is quite small.
    1. Ink stained wolf (Borean Tundra) - Black ink
    2. Ink stained bird (Borean Tundra) - Black ink
    3. Flaming Boar - Conspicuous Flames
    4. Lone Hunter (Eastern Plaguelands) - Sword in skull
    5. Angered Arakkoa Protector (Thousand Needles) - Blue ghost mist
    6. Infected Bear (Darkshore) - Purple mouth fog
    EDIT:
For the Protector, I'm not sure if petabandon works, but there's a funky way to retain his visual effect. When you damage the guards in the area, they run to a rune to spawn this carrion. The carrion auto-despawns 60 seconds after being summoned. If you finish your tame as it despawns, you'll keep its effects. So you don't actually have to kill it, just make sure your tame syncs up with its despawn(use /stopwatch)

Sadly, that's all we've found in terms of pets with death-persisting effects.

There are a million effects that don't persist on death, and will stay if you do the petabandon macro, but will go away if it dies.
For example, the Searing Roc in Tanaris with sparkly effects, the Fel Taint buffed mobs in BL, spirit bird that you summon from Terrokar forest for the Terrok questline, plagued hounds from EPL etc.
If you want a more in-depth list, I'll post one, but I don't think it's really important since they go away on death.

This is still working. I just did it on a level 12 hunter using a trial account to set it on fire.

I have tried this plenty of times, I still dont get it... tried it with the G15 method (I have the keyboard) and still nothing. When I log on again it says I have no pet to revive

I spam the macro with the but as I understand, it get abandoned the pet and thats why I cant ress him :/

EDIT: Nvm my nuubish words above. I finaly got it on my human hunter.

    I did the revive method.

    1. Have him in place on the meat stand were you start burn.
    2. Freeze trap and start Tame.
    3. Put it on fire
    4. Spam revive when the tame was done.

Took like 10-12 tries with this method

I did it using the revive method. I timed it with zero haste and casted it on the trial account at about 6.9-7 seconds left into the cast. After the attempt, check to see if you have the pet listed in your whistle. If it doesn't show on the whistle, but revive will start its cast, log out. The pet may not show that it is on fire on the log in screen. Log back in and revive your pet.

If done correctly, it will be on fire.

I also had trouble with the macro. We tried for like an hour. Then we tried the revive trick and worked like 3rd try.

We tried getting the oil-stained wolf using both methods (the macro, as well as manually killing it and using revive) but neither seemed to work

You don't HAVE to re-log. I did this solo after like 20 minutes trying with a friend.

I already linked to the thread that this was more closely a repost of.
Yours does not mention the petabandon macro, which is an incredibly integral part of this thread.

Yours also does not include the specific pet.

You didn't even link the thread you're referring to (I had to go find it to make sure they're not the same).

Please don't make a useless post if you don't have anything to contribute to the discussion.
