ive been attempting this now for like 10-15 minutes, and i dont understand how if you "abandon" him how you can resummon him after re logging? it just told me "you have no pet"? any suggestions? im attempting the no macro method and he died at the right time, but he had no fire when revived

i got myself a boar the first time i saw this macro a few month ago.

Just tried the same thing for a friend, been there for around 40 minutes and no matter how much we spam, time or even just dont bother pressing the macro (last bit was an example) we cant get this to work again.

so ive no idea how your doing it

Make sure you start spamming revive as soon as you're done casting the tame ability.

The mechanics of it have changed at least a little since the original November-December conception of the bug.

That video is outdated for it.

Out of curiosity, how many confirmations are there that this has actually worked in the past few days? (either revive pet or abandon macro)

How is it dying that soon? Don't use the torch if there are more than 6 seconds left in the tame. Wait for the right time.

Would you clarify a couple things for those of us still trying?

1. What do you spam at the end of Tame, Pet Revive or that "/script PetAbandon()" macro?

2. What, exactly, requires the critical timing? Aren't we shooting for Tame to finish casting precisely when the fire kills the pig?

3. I have the quest on my 84 hunter. I can throw the torch from max distance and still tame faster than the fire can kill (via Berserking+Haste pot). Is it still necessary to have someone else throwing the torch or can this be solo'ed?

Just to clarify, my Tame is down to 7 seconds. I launch a freeze trap, pot+berserk, toss the torch, then cast tame. Tossing the torch triggers the GCD, so I can tweak the timing simply by adjusting the distance from me to the pig.

4. Someone mentioned the video in post #18 is outdated. Does anyone know what has changed in the procedure?

i have no proof this doesn't work anymore because i cant get the timing right

But the reason i think they wont be on fire anymore is because they took away the monkey's pickaxe from deadmines, so im thinking they might have taken away the effects on pets.

The hotfixed that happened in late december or early January that was supposed to fix this undoubtedly made it more difficult somehow, but right now it doesn't seem clear what changed unless it's just a smaller window of opportunity to keep the effect when you make it disappear.

For a crash course on WHY this works, I'll be using my memory from a few months ago when this came out.

Basically, if you tamed something and made it disappear BEFORE it "leveled up" the game would wonk out and not change anything about it. Visual effects, buffs, debuffs, etc. Then you logged out to make the game forget that it just caught something that hasn't been "cleansed" yet. When you log back in, the game legitimately has no problem with the effects or buffs/debuffs on your pet. Thus, you kept the pet.

This is why catching the oil wolf in BT worked as alliance. You were able to force the mob to despawn as you finished a tame.
The question then became, how else can you force a pet to go away?
The answer after that was "revive it when it's dead." This was difficult, but the hunters with good timing were able to tame certain mobs whose effects persisted upon death. Namely, the boar, Thistle Bear, Lone Hunter, and a certain carrion in Thousand Needles.

After this, the goal became taming pets that had effects that did NOT persist on death somehow. It meant forcing a despawn without letting them die.

This turned out to be possible with the handy petabandon macro which was(and I guess still is) bugged. Abandon pet is a function that, if utilized as you finish a tame, bugs out and doesn't properly abandon the pet. Instead, the game thinks it has abandoned the pet, so you can't call it. But when you log out and back in, the game "finds" the pet suddenly and allows you to pull it out from the void.

So, these two methods ran rampant for a few weeks before Blizzard tried to shut them down, but I guess they're back, albeit more difficult to perform.

Hope this information helped some people who were curious about the whole process. You can read more by searching through petopia's posts around that time.

You can do this solo if you have the speed and the quest.
The critical timing is in forcing a despawn before the pet levels(or at least, that's as much as we know about it), so you want it to die as the tame finishes and you want to have revive pet primed in the last 1 second of the cast so that it despawns IMMEDIATELY upon death.
Alternatively, you want to be spamming the petabandon macro as you catch it(does not require mob's death).
In both scenarios, you want to then log out and back in.

2.) This is not clear. I've had the most luck timing it so they happen at the same time but I've also had instances in which the tame finished 2-3 seconds before the kill and it still worked

3.) Yes, if you can get the cast time down you can do it yourself
