    Lockboxes - Change of Contents

Ok so i noticed this today while grinding pirates in taranis, im sure everyone around 40 knows that the curego's gold quest is a great way to earn exp, gold and farm mageweave (In case you dont know at 72,47 ish in taranis there are pirates, these pirates when farmed drop pirates lockboxes which contain map fragments which when combined create a map which starts a quest, this quest is repeatable and drops a small cache of items at the end).

Anyway twice i noticed when looting these lockboxes while my inv was full (ie nothign actually being looted) that when i cleared some room and relooted the items inside had changed. Now i have no idea how this happened when in taranis but there is one thing ive managed to replicate.

The reward from this quest line is Cuergo's Hidden Treasure, if you look inside but dont take the items from this box, then Hearthstone and check again the items are different.

This could possibly mean with enough hearthstoning you can force blue items instead of useless greens. So far ive done the hearthstone trick 4 times without issue on this box.

I will test with other boxes such as mob drop lockboxes as soon as i get one

So in short, Heathstone forces new items but there IS a way to do it without HS, i just cant figure out how i did it

He says the quest is repeatable... Now your talking about the treasure chest at the end of the quest right?
Im alittle confused, so you get to the part where you find the chest. You clear the pirates guarding it and you look in it. If its not to your liking you hearth outa return and do the quest over again?
Can you just repeat it that easily?

Thats a nice find. Can anyone confirm this? You can probably do this on other items.

Re: Lockboxes - Change of Contents

Yes the example above is using the REWARD for the cuergo's quest the green quality box u get after completiung teh quest.

Im having difficulty replicating this again on the 4 boxes i got last night, this may be because i no longer have a full inventory or possibly because i looted the cash and greay items leaving just the greens.

I will keep playing but if anyone can figure this out further it woudl be great, perhaps test some rogue unlocked lockboxes? Damn drop is so low could be weeks before i get one

Re: Lockboxes - Change of Contents

I tried it on a normal mithril lockbox, and as I am a shaman and have Astral Recall, I tried both, Hearthstone and Astral Recall. I got some crappy green, I HS'd from Tanaris middle of nowhere to Gadgetzan and checked the lockbox again, the same item was still there. Then I tried Astral Recall with same result. So, I guess this only works with the hidden treasure you're talking about.

P.S I asked a rogue to open the lockbox in Orgrimmar, but doubt that does any difference.
