I've had this happen a lot, it is interface only. I have never been able to use them. If you try to add to them you can't either.

Its just a unit frame bug, always happened to me

this is the same if you (for example) die in world pvp as a rogue and manage to get some CP's on they will stay if you ress again.

Like everyone else said its client side only I have had it happen to me many times and I cannot use them if I use any move that gives me combo points it resets the ones that you had on him from last game.
