8600GT's are about 3-4 years old so I wouldn't be surprised if it was dying on you. I used to have one less then a month ago and had to replace cause my computer eventually wouldn't start up. Looked at the card, the capacitors were torn open.....I lol'd. End result, don't OC your cards kid, shit happens

76 degrees is above the temp it should be running at, Shouldn't really go higher than 65 with an old card like that.

Well hell, I dont overclock my Video card. All the fans are working properly, yet when I'm playing L4D2 (Or wow for that matter) its average at 75. Only in L4D2 it will slowly reach 80, 81.

    Greetings.

I had an 8600 GTS running smoothly with a 450W PSU. So wattage shouldn't be a problem.
On the other hand, I had the same corrupted texture/graphics problem with it, and RMA'd it 3 times already.

The culprit here is the memory on the GPU, my friend. See, the max core temp on a typical 8600GT/GTS is around 90 degrees, and even tho your temps go up higher than normal, it shouldn't be an issue. Try to cool the GPU more and see if that helps (but I doubt it will!).

ALSO: When I was playing WoW on my 8600GTS there were hardly any freezes/graphic corruptions. Once I started playing more advanced games graphic-wise, the GPU would crack and screen would go blank. After 10-20 seconds, image would reappear, only to go all Pink/Blue/Ripped/Shredded - corrupt in one word.

If you have a spare GPU, stick it into your PC and RMA your 8600 GT. You'll find out in time that this is the only viable solution, as to believe me, NOTHING you will do with your current GPU will stop it from misbehaving.

For more information, may I ask the make/manufacturer and exact model number of your GPU? And also, of your PSU (Power Supply Unit) - The PSU should have a "Max load" somewhere on the sticker, that will display the maximum wattage output of the PSU.

If you need any more help, don't hesitate to PM me. As I said: RMA the card, because there's nothing more you can do when faulty memory kicks in (I played only WoW with my card after I found out what was wrong, and sticked to that only, until I could buy another, a GTS250)

    - Tass
