{Question} Modle editing

Hi all I am really new to model editing. I know there are a bunch of programs out there to help me but when it comes to just modding Characters/armor what do I need? For extracting and stuff. I know I'll prolly need 3DS max or something but other than that I'm stumped.

A short step by step would be nice. do this with this program then use this program to do this that kinda thing. Sorry if there is this kinda thing on here already. but with all the pages of threads.. >.>

Read the guides in the guide forum, there is tons of information there. Read them all and you should have almost no questions.
