    [Help/Question] Custom Model convertion 3ds -> m2

    Hello everyone,

so, I've been dabbling in creating custom modeled items for WoW (or for its modelviewer, to be more specific.. )
and I've run into a problem with converting the model from 3ds Studio Max 2010.

I don't know if the guides I used are outdated, if the corresponding tools are, or if I simply make a mistake without realizing it...
So, here I am seeking advice on this from those who have more experience with this... ^^'

    For those who are curious:
I'm trying to convert this shoulder pad model I've made with custom textures.
Afterwards I'll try to either add it into the dbc files or replace an old shoulder pad model with this so I can use it in the modelviewer.

It's for this little sideproject of mine: http://handclaw.rampagingpolygons.co...mhammer_V1.jpg

Quick question - for what wow version are you trying to convert? As far as I remember you cant add custom models post 3.15.x patch. Assuming you use the latest viewer, that would explain it. If you only want to view it in viewer you are better of downloading the older one that supports 3.15

If you want to add custom models post 3.15 then its not possible, as far as I know.

Lol yes it is possible? I got custom models with custom animations working for Mists of Pandaria xD?

Just use MDLVIS or in this case use OBJTOM2

    Thanks, will look into it.

While I've been waiting, I simply imported all models into 3d Max to check out how they look like together. :P

    The result:

The drawback is of course the lack of animations.

Great job! How long did it take to make this?
I really don't have anything interesting to put here anymore.

Hmm, the on-character armor maybe like 2-3 days? Unsure right now. It's a bit of copy and paste from Thrall's WoD model, though had to fill up a lot myself and also find out how it fits best on the UVW of the character model.

The shoulder pads I've made over the course of two evenings. So, I estimate about 8 hours. I fully modeled them as well textured them. As for the hammer, I guess, about 4-6 hours? It's merely a modification of the existing WoD Hammer, though, had to restart bits of it.

One limit I set myself was to make it "player compatible". Sure I could have modeled out some details (the gloves, or the armor at the tip of the boots), but that wouldn't work with the player models ingame.

Nice work, did the OBJTOM2 converter worked for you or are you not yet near the step of converting?

Ah, well, I didn't get around trying it out yet, I'm afraid.

Though, I played around with posing it inside 3dsmax, so there is that:
