    make a cape transparent

    Greetings @ all,
    ok, let's start.

    I have a problem
atm. i'm making a reskin of my chars gear and now, i'm trying to reskin my cape.
the target is, to make the cape transparent (see-through-effect), but not full transparent.

so, this is the original, MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service .

I've tried it with "gimp", to make the texture at 50% opacity, but it don't work.

so please community, pimp my cape

(i think, there was an DBC-problem, or?)
(sorry 4 my bad english, it's not my native language.

Always reconvert to see if the BLP is correct or not. In your case, it's not.

If I reconvert it, all I see is white lines with some yellow between them.

Use photoshop to make opacity 50% , then save it as indexed colors as a PNG file, then use a PNG > BLP converter

afterwards, do a BLP > PNG converter to see if the colors are still the same before convertion.

thx for your help, but it didn't work.

at first, i've tried it with an other texture, like the legs. i've changed the opacity to 50% and it works ingame.
Now I just tried it with the cape, as with the legs. but, it didn't work.
The only thing that changed, was the color of cape to black, when i've made 0% opacity, as complete tranparency.

btw. yes, i've used photoshop and some kind of blp-converters...but i've a problem with indexed colors. if i convert the first .png to blp it's ok, but ingame it has a black/white design. if i convert it from .blp to .png, it's the same design like ingame.

    i'm very confused...

Hm, isn't it possible to first convert the blp to png, then open the png in paint, then you copy the whole area and paste it onto another paint, then you save it again as a PNG under a different name and from there you just change the opacity in photoshop and then save it like the way you do?

My guess would be that if you hard edit the cape it gets screwed up because of already implemented alpha channels, so maybe it works if you just copy the whole image onto paint and save it as png so it "lose" his alpha channel and become a regular picture. And from there just do the usual thing.

    nothing happend.

i've tried it with paint und photoshop and i've converted the .blp with 50% opacitiy back to .png.
this .png was the same like before. ingame, the cape looks as if it had no change, without any editing.

i have a theory about this. what is, if the model of the cape works like an creature in wow? i mean, what is, if you can edit the cape with dbc?
The model (50470) has the same fields as an creature. as an example. in creature editing there are field5 and 6. field5 is for size. field6 is for transparency.
I've tried it, but after one editing my dbc-editor gets an error message and i can't continue. furthermore the field5 is used by something else.

Edit says: Ok, i found a description, why this don't work.
quote: "however, making the cloak transparent will not work. if the cloak becomes transparent, you will see the standard character texture (yes, even on the cloak, also on the lower part of the tabard)."
The standart character texture is black.
As an example, the cloak of sylvanas or Alexstrasza are transparent, but the cloaks are exclusiv for these models.

so, if i want for my char an transparent cloak, i have to do modelediting, but this is at the moment beyond my capabilities...
