[Question] Helm Fixes

So I've been trying to do some basic race to race edits using a guide on desc ipe.

However, I'm having a few problems with any edits with Gnomes and some helms coming out strange. I've heard plenty of times about helms having to be fixed for many different edits. I was wondering if there was anywhere I could read up on how to do these helm fixes or more specifically why they need to be done so often.

I appreciate any help.
