    [Discussion] Long-term Azeroth rebuild

To start off and give some background; I've always been really interested in creating my own maps for games and mods etc but I have never really been too into the game or their editing tools are just aweful (ET)

One of my not-so-fresh ideas I had was to almost completely revamp Azeroth. It wasn't even an option until I learned of Nogg-it, and it sparked my interest once again... but I was unsure that I could stand to work with such a rough unstable program.

However, I want to go on with this... I find myself really bored very often and would have nothing better to do... and FFS, it would be a good way to spend my time and possibly a neat project to work on.

Does anyone know those WoW.Dev people? They have world building tools that work much better than Nogg-it... I want that :P I don't think they would give it to just anyone, but I haven't a clue how to get in contact with them and convince them that I'm working on rebuilding WoW and not cheating in BGs :P

Sooo that's my plan. I want the zones to be named the same and such, but I want to make them much better than they are now, how I see the world should be. I want the battlegrounds to help provoke large battles in between flags and not some honor grind like they currently are.

I'm sure you get my drift. l hope I can get some approval and long-term support on my project!

Right, and as of now I don't need any sort of team. my girlfriend and I will be working on the actual building. I might need some help with DBC edits and stuff like that though. I would also like a more user-friendly nogg-it or some of those tools that WoW.Dev has. I should go sign up there and poke around a while.

    Re: [Discussion] Long-term Azeroth rebuild

Do not expect WoW.Dev's tools shared, surely not with MMOwned.
Also, revamping the whole Azeroth would take you ages.
Anyway, good luck with your project, but I don't think I would like to be involved in this, too time consuming.

    Re: [Discussion] Long-term Azeroth rebuild

Well, the easiest way may be: Get in contact with us.

Just register at wow.dev & join IRC. So that part is done :P
But as Dragon[Sky] said, we wont share anything with MMOwned.
Just work a bit, show that off and you may be invited to do mcuh more than just modelchaning on MMOwned :P There are several new projects with a good perspective to surrive the begining.

Just join wow.dev and see what time brings.

    Re: [Discussion] Long-term Azeroth rebuild

Thanks Schlumpf, I may do that.

As an update since I just recently started playing around with noggit seriously, I decided to go to mulgore and play with the 2 first towns there.

I couldnt figure out how to move a building... I dont even know if thats possible
So I did a minor resize, tilt and reposition of scenery and objects.

Then I thought "hey, i never roll tauren because the walk from town 1 to town 2 is horrible." So I tried to open the exit to Town1 in a different spot but then I ran into a problem, I couldnt get the road texture to go all the way up the hill.

That's about all of the mentionable testing ive done so far besides editing mountain ranges and hill-layout in areas.

    Re: [Discussion] Long-term Azeroth rebuild

I just completed my first area beautification change, Darnassus.

    Changes:
    -Foliage a bit larger
    -A few trees placed differently
    -Bank larger and turned slightly
    -New scenery island
    -Some hills more extravagant

    BONUS!
-You can now walk the part from the AH -> Bank trail that you used to have to swim.

Please note i did not do any major changes, so these files can be used with the Live client.
All changes (except the AH>Bank change) are for looks.

    RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting

Remember, this is the Dip-Alpha of this file, and if something is wrong with it PM ME!
I appreciate the help with any but reports (floating trees, my ah>bank exploit not working correctly, or if it's just a bad save on noggit's part. Remember, this IS my first world change file and I currently have no way to see these changes ingame, so please bare with me!

Hopefully someone can enjoy the changes!

    Re: [Discussion] Long-term Azeroth rebuild

Sure thing, let me load up onto a 1.12 server and snap a few previews of darnassus!

That should do it. I used to spend a lot of time in Darnassus, but someone who dosn't spend much time there might not notice the scenery differences.
But if you find yourself in Darnassus at all, the water crossing alone is nice.

This is also just a starting piece, once I can get my hands on some tools that can move whole buildings and such I will completely revamp cities. Until then, Im making them look less drab, and I think thats the downfall of some of them

Also, I will be releasing the first complete zone revamp very soon, but I dont want to give out many details.
