A working patch to Outlands F&F Alpha (the friends and family alpha that was released before official beta TBC) has now been converted to 5.2 and can be loaded into the game instead of the Outlands we see today. The patch + client can be downloaded from this dropbox-link:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5llc7golfd2uzpa/qosLJCJA1n
(use the client in the dropbox, not the one in the .rar)
NB: It's 400 mb.
The patch itself contains the outlands as seen on Friends and family alpha. Here is some screenshots that prepares you for the content of the patch.
As you will discover, many models have been changed from alpha to release Outlands. Here is the alpha Dark Portal in Hellfire. Notice the mobs; most of the time, the offsets from alpha and release is similar, which means that you can use the alpha as substitute without troubles.
Some places of Shadowmoon are pretty interesting.
These green squares indicates experiments with skyboxes. It's sometimes pretty beautiful. The above picture is the skybox outside the square...
... and inside the square. As said, some of the skyboxes are very pretty - I especially like this one:
On Netherwing Ledge is some strange volcanoes that shoot stones. What the hell ..
Parts of Outlands are very unfinished and often not even connected to land. There's pieces like this scattered all over the place.
When you travel north, things become very unfinished. Most of Blade's Edge looks like this.
Same goes for Netherstorm. I do, however, love the bridge design!
Uh, I don't really have a video showing all of the cool stuff - yunalol had one, you guys might be able to find it if you want to see more.
The installation is actually not hard, and can be set up in three easy steps:
1. Extract the WoW.exe; rename your old wow.exe to shit like 'wow-old.exe' or 'wow-I-heart-Andros.exe' - whatever.
2. Extract the patch wow-update-base-34000.MPQ to your WoW/data
3. Start the edited wow.exe
Oh also, I don't deserve credit for shit - here's the real good guys & gals:
Mjollna ~ inventing the .adt converter needed.
Feangren ~ Updating the .adt converter from Cata to MoP.
Reznik ~ retrieving 3.x.x files from the actual Tomes.
P.S:
Some important info while surfing the Outlands.
- When in Blade's Edge, Netherstorm & Shadowmoon, watch the mobs! You'll crash if you go lower than the 'actual surface'; the real surface that other players will see.
- Protip: Azuremyst, Bloodmyst, Ghostlands & Eversong Woods are on the same map. Check it out!
