2 ways to greatly improve your performance

I did this because my comp sucks but it prob also very useful for peeps with nice rigs. I use win xp pro not sure if step 2 is possible on vista. There are tons other posts, resources around but few people seem to do these 2 and they help a ton.

    1. Use a commercial defrag program. All those bliz patches and mpq files clog up your harddrive like a dirtty toilet. The windows defrag is a piece of junk.

I'd recommend Perfectdisk PerfectDisk Blog: World of Warcraft -- defrag your MPQ files

Or o&o defrag O&O Software - Creating Solutions

    2. Boot wow using a gaming profile instead of your default login, basically follow this awesome guide
Tweak XP for Gaming « Red Chaos’ PC Tech & Gaming

The defrag part is quite common sense, but the guide looks good.

Nice guide. Most people never defrag and this slows down your pc bigtime.

The defrag thing like most tweaks is obvious, whats not obvious to a lot of users is that perfect disk actually is somewhat adjusted to work with all those bliz mpq files before and after a large patch. O&O is also very complete defrager.

Most users use the defualt windows defrag and it just doesnt compare to these 2 commercial products. I tested them and its a huge differance.

if your looking for a copy id recommend a search engine like FilesTube.com - Every search is a direct hit - file search engine or
    FileShare Search Engine

you can speed up vista a little bit by using some simple tricks like:

    1. (Enable DualCore Support for Boot - Vista uses DualCore Automatically but only when it gets on the Desktop - With this trick you activate DualCore during the first LoadingScreen)

Start - "in the Search line type: "msconfig" "
then a window appears. Click there on Start then Advanced Options.
Then you should see there Processorscount (or something like that im owning the German Vista x64 so i dunno the word exactly) Change it to 2, apply everything and then reboot.

    2. (a little Bit faster booting cause we deactivate DualMonitors)

goto Start -> Control Panel -> (Set there the Classic View Option on the left side) Administrative Tools (something like that, the Icon should look like a gearwheel with a checked window)

Then goto Planing (its a icon with a clock)
then goto "Microsoft -> Windows -> MobilePC" and on the right side you should see TMM click on it and then on the right window hit "Deactivate"

This should give you a little PerformanceBoost + a little faster Startup
