How to REALLY dps as a hunter (Common Sense tbh)

im a BM hunter and oddly have a VERY similar talent build except some things i have to say are useless for PvE Raiding which is what you made this guide for like you have 2 points into "Go for the throat" where your crits cause your pet to gain 50 focus but when youre raiding your pet shouldnt need much focus... maybe dash at the start and thats not a repeatable and you sure as hell shouldnt have him growling... if your using bite or something i still wouldnt waste the 2 points into that for some extra bites that do like 150 damage lol when you can put into something that increases YOUR dps like imp arc shot or imp hunters mark and second of all your strat is way to bleak... your trying to make a guide on how to dps as a hunter and your saying arc and multi shot will take a lot of mana?! for god sakes use em its more dps you can shoot both in less tha a second and get an added 2.5k at least... youre not writing a guide on how to save mana youre writing a guide on dps... just my 2 cents

First of all, mana effiency = dps in longer fights (longer than attumen and moroes). Multi and arcane will make you go oom faster than a destruction warlock, and you cant shoot without mana.

And GfTT = useless? Ever heard of focus dump skills? Jeez, stop acting like Mr. Iknoweverything.

ok with 2k RAP:

Sting would do .....700 dmg for 275 mana..................[2.54 dmg per mana]
Arc Shot would do 573 dmg (non crit) for 230 mana [2.49 dmg per mana]
Arcane shot also is able to be missed, resisted, and immune to some mobs, just some properties of arcane shot to keep in mind
Theres some numbers to help you decide.

the only sting worth using is Scorpid sting.. because tanks love that extra 5% mitigation (aka more bosses misses 5% more)

I'm not a pally, I don't have a bubble to burst. Stings aren't a waste of mana. Nothing you say will change that in my eyes.

Not all stings suck. You just gotta find the right time for each one. I used these stings for each purpose.

Viper = Mana users in PvP
Scopid = PvE
Serpent = only if mob is immune to arcane or on pesky rogues

I can tell most of the hunters here haven't been past Gruul or SSC or TK. For PvE, Serpent Sting IS a waste of mana (this could possibly change in patch 2.3), and I can't think of one boss other than Shade of Aran where Viper Sting is useful (and even then it's hardly worth it). Scorpid Sting can be useful on bosses that hit especially hard or quick (Teron Gorefiend, Azgalor, etc.); other than that, your tank should be good enough to do without it (and tanks can have a difficult time generating rage and ultimately threat if they aren't being hit often enough). As a BM hunter, a pure Steady Shot, Auto Shot, Kill Command (when available) rotation is the way to go. Using Arcane Shot and Multi-Shot as a BM hunter is going to cause shot clipping (as your attack speed will be very quick, especially with imp AotH procs) ultimately gimping your DPS. Mark and Surv hunters are a different story, Arcane Shot and Mult-Shot should be used every time their CD is up. Also, to whoever said Go for the Throat is useless: Wrong. Your pet can never have enough focus. For example, if your pet is a cat, it should be trained with Claw; Claw has no cooldown and costs 25 focus. If your pet always has focus, he can constantly be using Claw in addition to auto-attacking and Bite (which also uses focus).

You probably haven't been past SSC, TK, or Gruul yourself. I've been in each of those, downed bosses in each one. I always use a sting in my shot rotation, and I don't normally run out of mana and I top DPS.

Well, any good hunter knows that stings are very inefficient. Anyone can say they "top DPS." Show me some WWS of you topping DPS in Hyjal and Black Temple. I bet you use Aimed Shot, too.

I rarely use aimed shot, I only got it to get mortal shots. Aimed shot is a waste of time.
