Warrior & PVP- Guide
by Tyndae on Sat Apr 16, 2011 1:20 pm
Allright, so, i thought alot of people might want to arena, but not be able to since some Warrior comes crushing you down in 5 seconds.
Well, this guide is written to make sure youre that warrior.
Ill be going through different PVP talents, arena setups and gear.
1. Talents.
2. Gear.
3. Gems & Enchants.
4. Setups for you.
1. Talents
Arms
The first spec here: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft is the most used Arms spec, its got what it takes to deal out a pretty huge amount of damage, and its got both selfheal passives in Warrior talents.
Upsides: Slam damage increased by 35% normal, 55% critical, passively through talents. With lambs to the slaughter, and passive talents, your slam gains 55% dmg increase, and 85% crit dmg increase.
You have all passive selfheal talents as warrior, and youve got the Drums of War and Improved hamstring, where drums of war 1/2 is a musthave, and imp hamstring is just nice. And you got the Rude interruption, 5% dmg increase for 15 sec when you interrupt a spell with Pummel. Also, youve got blitz, so if you charge a warrior beside hes healer, the healer gets stunned aswell. A good example of blitzpros is: A shaman is standing in enemy smokebomb. You realise hes totem is right outside the smokebomb, but beside him- You charge the totem and you stun the shaman aswell. Rawr
Downsides: You miss out on Tactical mastery, which causes you to keep an additional 50 of your rage when you switch stances. ( Total 75 rage, 25 without improvement. ) In my opinion, this talent is not needed at all, since the only time you change stances, and need to use something immediately, it costs less than 25 rage. Its an ok talent, but not that good.
Personally, i like this spec best, and i dont think the second spec is bad compared to this one, but its what playstyle you like.
Second spec: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft Its an uncommon spec since slam is our way now, and not many people uses it. Its not much different from the other, yet the gameplay is totally different. You wont use slam at all, since you didnt invest into the improved slam ( 20% extra dmg, - 1 sec less cast. 2 ranks ) - And therefore, youre slam is a 1.5 cast abillity, that deals less dmg than your mortal strike and almost less than your overpower, = Worthless
Upsides: You do have tactical mastery in this spec, and with these talents, your damage should be great, although, right now it aint as good as the first spec. Its more how you like to play it.
This spec is more fun in my opinion, since you dont use a 0.5 sec cast abillity whenever you can, which yo udo in the other spec.
downsides: You wont deal as much damage as the first one, and you dont have Second wind, which is a nice abillity. Also, you dont have improved hamstring, and that can make you suffer compared to other warriors in arena.
Protection
Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft . It is probably the most common PvP prot spec, and is used mostly for 5v5 / Rated BG, and rarely seen in 3v3.
Its upsides: You have great deal of stuns and 2 silence/interrupts, which causes you to be a deadly foe if you are with another great Damager and Healer, since you can lock down a healer easily long enough to kill someone. Also, you will be a hard bastard to kill, since youre HP is with full pvp gear 15-25k higher than everybody elses. Also, your armor and block is much better than theirs aswell.
Downsides: Your damage will be one of the parts that kills you. Compared to Arms / Fury warriors, you will even be laughing at yourself. You will not be able to kill a healer solo, 98% of the time, since you just dont deal enough damage to.
Fury
Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft . Its the double 2h Dualwielding spec, and does after my experience, INSANE damage.
upsides: Your damage will be out of the line, totally insane. enough to kill two healers, if done right.
downsides: you die easily, you dont have much defense, and you cant control when your damage comes.
Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft. Insane dmg aswell, though not as much as the other spec, but here you can control it a little more. Still not controllable enough though.
Upsides: Great damage.
Downsides: Uncontrollable damage, and not much defense.
2. Gear
Allright, lets start out with what starts are most important, if you got none.
You need 5% hit rating, no more no less. I usually run around with 5.05 or 5.15%, since ofcourse you wont land on exactly 5.00 % .
After that, you need atleast 20 expertise, preferably 22-24. You should get this from gear and reforging, not from gems or enchants.
Strength and Resilience: After you have gotten youre expertise and hit, you should get atleast 3 - 3.8k resi, where 3.3-3.4k or so can be done with full bloodthirsty gear. ( blue 352 PVP ), 2500+ is fine for starting out though.
Strength, is your most important stat. This baby controlls youre damage output, and with 0 strength, you will deal less damage than a critter licking your ear. So, after you gained youre expertise, hit rating and 2500 to 3k resi, start going for high strength, youll read more about it in the Gems & Enchants category.
Gear setup.
I will write a setup that will make you choose your PvP items more wisely, this is for people who are counting on full pvp gear, and if youre not, then you could just reforge your items.
I will write as if you are full bloodthirsty/vicious geared. Bloodthirsty gladiator, and vicious gladiator has got the exact same stats, vicious gladiators stats are just higher.
Gladiator helm . Strength, stamina, Mastery and Resilience. Reforge mastery-> expertise.
Gladiator choker of accuracy. Strength, stamina, resillience, hit rating. Dont reforge.
Gladiator's shoulders. Strength, stamina, resillience, Expertise, dont reforge.
Gladiator's Cloak of Prowess. Strength, stamina, resillience, mastery. Reforge Mastery -> Hit-
Gladiator's chest. Strength, stamina, resillience, critical strike. Reforge crit -> expertise.
Gladiator's armplates of proficiency. Strength, stamina, resillience, expertise. Dont reforge.
Gladiator's Gloves. Strength, stamina, resillience, hit rating. Dont reforge.
Gladiator's belt of Cruelty. Strength, stamina, resillience, crit strike. Reforge crit -> Expertise.
Gladiator's legplates. Strength, stamina, resillience, haste. Reforge Haste -> hit rating.
Gladiator's warboots of cruelty. Strength, stamina, resillience, crit strike. Reforge crit -> expertise.
Gladiator's signet of accuracy. Strength, stamina, resillience, hit rating, Dont reforge.
Gladiator's Signet of Cruelty. Strength, stamina, resillience, crit strike. reforge crit -> expertise.
Gladiator's badge of victory. resillience ( 300-340 ) -> On use: grants 1400-1600 str ( depending on bloodthirsty or vicious ) . Cant reforge.
Gladiator's Medallion of Tenacity. Resillience (300-340) -> On use: removes all movement impairing effects and all effects which cause you to loose control of your character. Also removes disarm and silence. Cant reforge
Gladiator's War edge: Strength, stamina, resillience, crit. Reforge crit-> expertise.
Gladiator's Greatsword(or axe or mace) Strength, stamina, resillience, crit. Reforge crit-> Expertise.
Gems and Enchants.
To make sure that the set above works, youll have to gem and enchant for it aswell. So ill write as if youre wearing the gear above, with the same reforges.
Enchants
Helm: Tolbarad pvp enchant.
Shoulder: Tolbarad pvp enchant.
Cloak: 50 crit.
Chest: 40 resillience.
Bracers: 50 strength.
Gloves: 50 strength.
legplates: 190 AP 55 crit ( Dragonscale leg armor )
boots: 30 stamina minor movement speed, or lavawalker: 35 mastery minor movement speed.
If oure enchanter: Rings: 40 strength on both.
Mainweapon(2 hand): Landslide.
Gems
You should have 3 or 4 Resplendent ember topaz. ( 20 str 20 resi ).
You should have 3 Bold gems ( 40 str ) .
you should have 3 or 4 etched demons eye. ( 20 str 20 hit )
Your meta-gem should be 54 strength 3 increased crit damage ( reverberating shadowspirit diamond ).
Setups
2v2
Resto shaman / Warrior.
Resto druid / Warrior.
Disc priest / Warrior.
Holy paladin / Warrior.
Ret paladin / Warrior.
Death Knight / Warrior.
The double dps setups are hard at higher rating, but easy to get to 1800 with, since damage will be insane.
3v3

Warrior/Disc priest/Resto shaman
Warrior/Disc priest/Resto Druid
Warrior/Disc priest/Hunter
Warrior/Disc priest/Feral
Warrior/Disc priest/Retri paladin

I reccomend these setups for 3v3: Warrior/healer/hunter. Warrior / Ret paladin / Nonpala healer. TSG(Warr DK) with Rsham or Hpal. Warrior / Shadowpriest / Nonpriest healer. Warrior / Lock / nonpriest healer.
5v5
Ill only be going through the best 5v5 setups, or this list will fill your whole screen atleast 35 times.
Warrior/holypala/Disc/DK/Enha/elem shaman
Warrior/Rshaman/disc priest/DK/Hunter
Warrior/hunter/holypal/Rshaman/DK.
Warrior/hunter/Disc priest/R druid/ Ele / Enha sham.
These are my 4 favourite 5v5 combos.
If theres anything missing, please write. Thank you for reading.
If you arent going to get full glad gear, then just get the same gems & enchants, get 5% hit, 20+ expertise and 3.2k+ resi, then rest into str.
