Enchanters , get X amount of free Maelstrom crystal (1-3 time per account )

Alright first off this worked back in WotLK / BC but it wasn't really worth doing considering the price of the abyss crystal / void crystal have never been really high.

However the price of Maelstrom crystal vary from 1500-4000g right now so I found it was worth it to use this exploit to get some free gold.

So lets begin.

Step1:

You must be an enchanter have at at least 1 epic item that is not from rep, Valor points item / PvP item. It shouldn't be a problem for any enchanter to do that since you can just buy the wand for 700 arena pts and DE it.

Step2:

You must make sure that your account is still elligible for account restoring. Each account have a limited amount of those restore. Note that the GM won't tell you how many restore you have left but if you ask them : Hey I deleted this character a few weeks ago by mistake if I wanted to get it restored would it be possible ? They will tell you if you have at least 1 restoration left. Which is enough to do this exploit once. If you have more well good for you but try to let some time elapse in between each time you use this.

Step3:

DE the epic item , I would suggest not DEing more than 2-3 at a time. Get the Maelstrom crystal sell it in trade or on the AH or get a weapon enchant w/e. Now make a ticket saying whatever really , your brother got on your account and he was pissed at you so he DEed your gear , or that you were drunk and DEed it. Make sure you say in the ticket that you wish to use one of your account restoration to retreive those item.

Unlike a scam , when you use one of your account restoration GM doesn't take back the shard or gold you got from the item you DEed / vendored. They will simply Mail it to you at the vendor price. So you will receive your epics in your mail for 10g CoD .. 30g CoD... however much the money you would have made if you would have vendored the item. This is why you can't do this scam with lets say the vial from Alchemy drake that cost alot of gold. Hence why I said Enchanter only.

Step4:

Profit , you now got your items back ( note that they come back enchanted and gemmed , not sure about the reforge but thats only like 20g ) + you have X numbers of free Maelstrom crystal.

Note that you must agree to lose at least 1 of your limited account restoration to do this exploit. They do give you back new restoration after a while though.

I searched through many thread and I didn't see anything like that. I saw some people talking about scamming some item with this but nothing with the Maelstrom crystal.

Anyhow I don't think its intended to use your account restoration to make a few thousands gold so enjoy your free Maelstrom crystal ^.^

EDIT PLEASE READ - I never encountred this problem with a GM but there is chance that the GM will refuse to refund your item ( based up on others experience ), since this is a possibility, I suggest you only DE PvP idol / Wand that you wouldn't use anyways and ask for a restore on those. So if the GM decide to refuse refunding those, at least you didn't lose anything,

should I post it under the General forum ? I honestly don't know I am just trying to contribute and since I've used up all my restoration with this trick so its useless to me now. I though I would try sharing.

and btw as long as you have at least 1 restoration left on your a account the GM will restore it. The only time I got denied a restoration was when I ran out of them.

Theres not a set amount of restorations.. I must've at least have 15 of em, if not more (chars etc but mostly items).

There is a set amount, after a while they add some to your account or reset it back to whatever number that is. Because it would make no sense for someone who is playing since 6 years to only have 5 restoration. I had about 20 restoration myself but thats over the years.


Eitherway, I am just letting people what are the consequence of using this '' exploit '' , if you never had any problem with GM telling you that you are out of restoration maybe they the time elapsed in between them was long enough or maybe you just got a lucky GM. But account limited item / character restoration does exist.

As Kurios pointed there is a chance that you get a GM who won't do it, In that case I would just open a new ticket. As long as you ask to use one of your limited account restoration to restore that item, I never had any problem getting anything restored.

Short before patch 4.0.1 i DE'd muradins favor and i ask a gm to resto it for me. he said no and i wrote another gm and asked him the same. he said i allready asked once and he banned me for 3hours for abusing the ticket system. so its maybe not the best idea

edit- Also note that there is way to ask for stuff , most GM are lazy so of course if you write an half hassed post not asking for something specific but you only say something like ' plz restore ' it will most likely won't happen. Telling a GM I want to use one of my limited account restoration has always worked for me, because when you tell them that they actually go check to see if you have any left and if you do they usually start doing the job they are getting paid for.


Eitherway I've made up to 8 crystal using this method , they sell for 3000g on my server so that was an easy 24k gold. Take the risk if you want to, if you want to play it safe buy the relic / or the wand or bracer ( buy an item you can use at least so it doesn't look suspicious to the GM that you want to refund an item you can't even use )


O well , it usually start a thread badly when the admin post that he doesn't like your thread. Anyways I am not posting this for rep , I can really care less about that. I just wanted to point out a trick for enchanters to make some extra gold while they still can before the Maelstrom crystal price drop to shit. For the people that try it and get a successfull result , enjoy , for the others , well too bad ^.^

Seems harsh that they would ban you for asking twice. Perhaps you caught them on a bad day but good that it wasn't a very long temp. ban.

I'd try this out but I'm afraid I've asked for several restorations over the past years and am afraid they'd say no. Pity I don't have any epic's I'd be willing to lose =|

I don't think anything exploiting gm's should be put as a guide/exploit. It's entirely situational and might screw yourself later when you do need a restoration

I asked where to post this , I got told by the admin to leave it in the guide section.

However I do agree about the GM part being situational this one is a lil bit less situational because you are actually asking for something that exist aka the use of one of your account restoration. Also note that if the GM refuse to restore the item you DEed you won't lose one of your limited account restoration. Which is why I added the edit to my post , if you want to make it safe only DE PvP idol / wand / throwing weapon so this way if you get bad luck you won't lose anything. You will make less gold this way but its safer.

Also note that if you are in a raiding guild and your raid leader let you DE the un-used BoP item in your raid, You could most likely DE those and ask for a restoration and if doesn't happen you don't lose anything ( not even arena points ). Make up a story like noone wanted the item until later someone wanted it for offspec but it was too late you already vendored it / DEed it etc .
