    [MLG Player] Arena Guide + Q/A

    Hello,

    I have played in the MLG for 2 years as a rogue.

    I am creating this guide to help people out who are not sure what to do when it comes to arena/pvp/dueling.

    I want to start up a Q/A first before I actually post the guide (which will be posted in the next 2-3 days). I will edit this thread out but leave the questions/answers.

    I personally do not use any addons because they are not allowed during MLG and I just got used to that.

    I haven't tried Muti yet, but I am currently playing sub. Basically to start off your mage should sheep whoever you are focusing, and waiting for you to sap the other opponent. As soon as you sap you can open up on the sheeped target. Ring of Frost shares DR with Sheep and Sap, so there are a few ways you can open on the target. You can either stunlock your target or open with bleeds and mage freezing the target. Just counterspell - blind chain whoever you are CCing who will hopefully trinket the blind, ShS kick them if they are casting and have mage sheep again after the DR is up. By that time your target should be dead or close to dead. If they are alive you can reset the fight or try and battle it out with next cooldowns.

    Being that I last seriously played in 2008. I've grown fat around the edge of my character and slowly lost the art. My main now being a frost mage, most I can do at the moment is farm honor points to get the new gear set. However I've always played as arcane, the noob spec to some because of the need for only 3 buttons.

    In arenas /duels/bgs ive found it is iffy on taking down the opponent (if it is a druid just logout, save some time). Same goes with frost for druids in the past arena seasons.

    the question: I know about shatter combo, i get the idea behind being the quite nuke versus mid pack glass cannon, but what is your best take on the talents to use and what to use against druids? Mind you i've have had some pro-ass druids just dance around me shapeshifting to break any stuns and just doing hots.. what do?

    I am a dk with pretty decent gear (i357 pvp) but I am having serious issues killing druids (both resto and feral), with resto being that if I train them they put me in alot of instant roots/natures grasp and if its on DR they travelform away with full hots up, I really cannot seem to be able to dps them outside deathgrips or with alot of dispels from my teammate (a hpal).
    Against feral druids I cannot seem to get anywhere near their partner (accept maybe priests) because of a permanent slow, and whenever I am even remotely close to killing the druid or his partner he shapeshifts out and instaclones me

    Could you do a nice rogue guide for the most 'difficult classes' to beat as a rogue, how to counter them?As Assassination spec, not a big fan of sub.

    assassin rogue/afflic lock 2v2 guide would be nice, double DPS giving us most trouble, esp if theres DK.

    I like the idea. I am happy for every input. Sadly I can't pvp as much as I would like because of odd working hours right now and some not very talented 3vs3 / 2vs2 partners ( but hey, they are my friends and wins feel more great after you lost 5 matches in a row ^^);

    Plz take some time and release a guide that is updated to 4.06 because there are lots of pvp affecting changes.

    Which CC's you would always want to have trinket for?

    Also is there situations when you would want to get CC'd?

    Added a couple questions, also just so that it helps me say which comp you are running, it's quite hard to say how to CC etc. when I don't know who you are running with.

    I'll answer some more after I finish up with homework.

    I can help you from a 2400 lock's POV.

    VS DK/HEALER:
    DK IS ON WARLOCK:
    Keep Shadow Ward up! Death Knights do Shadow Damage!
    Always make sure your warlock's positioning keeps his portal out of LOS of the DK when he kites him (to avoid insta-death grip after port), always keep him slowed via shadowflame glyph if he manages to get close to you (which is a must have), and curse of exhaustion. You need to kill the DK no matter how irritating that sounds, and the sap on the healer will be a HUGE upper-hand. Your warlock should try to fear the DK to start to see if he is silly enough to pop lichborne (some do surprisingly, even at 2k+). Whenever AMS is up that is your warlock's time to port, and immediately afterward AMS ends I would have the rogue kidney shot him. Death coil is some what situational, but usually I tend to use it when Lichborne is up to prevent that crazy self healing of his. I never need to be peeled by my partner as any spec of warlock vs DK / Healer so if the warlock can manage himself, the rogue can play extremely aggressive until the DK realizes he has to switch.

    DK IS ON ROGUE
    The OP would have to tell his perspective of this since I don't know too much about playing a rogue.
    Now, if the DK is on the rogue that might be a bit more of a problem due to the fact that he has to be up close to combat with the DK, he NEEDS to kite if his CDs are down while the warlock keeps pressure going. If the DK's lichborne is down spam fear on him to peel. The warlock doesn't need to be afraid to get up-close with the DK to shadowflame him either, remember Shadowflame slow is 70% slow! When the DK switches to the warlock that's a good thing, but I would wait for AMS > Kidney shot to own him. Also remember that Icebound Fortitude (a buff of a DK on a long CD) makes him immune to Stuns.

    If it is a holy paladin / DK be aware of his hand of sacrifice pre-combat as it's a common method vs double dps with rogues to break sap since apparently not every one is smart enough to dispel it. If you're lucky enough your warlock can dispel it with a manual devour magic on the DK, if it misses this is situational, but, you can either break your sap if their DK is already pummeling some one by opening on him, or wait hand of sacrifice out (possibly by fearing DK).

    A huge note to add: A LOT of DK / HEALERS are TUNNEL VISION. You might just be able to kite the DK out of his healer's LOS. Even if it's for a few seconds, that's a few seconds of extra "CC" on the healer!

    Usually on my warlock I can drag out games forever because no melee can kill me cause of my kiting (aside from feral druids until patch ), and Kiting is too easy.

    If all else fails your warlock can try demonology. It's pretty OP right now and it has an additional 3 second root + 3 second stun, has some nice constant burst and initial survivability, and if those 2 are timed correctly you can add another 2 second stun via "Aura of Foreboding" talent.

    EDIT: I forgot to mention that Blind and Fear share DR. If you can pull off a vanish > Sap after the first sap DR ends you will most likely kill the DK unless he can solo you two. A DK cannot interrupt (Mind Freeze) you if he is silenced.

    If you aren't I would suggest playing with a shadow priest and still see if you are having those problems. The only way to kill a Druid by yourself would be if their trinket is down in a deep freeze > pet nova (to proc fingers of frost, and remember it doesn't have a GCD) > blank counterspell. I would try to get them down to at least 60% before trying that combo as well. Something I've seen done sometimes also is to put ring of frost around the target in the deep freeze, and if they get frozen they wait through it for some cds to come up. (I don't know how effective that is)

    Also next patch (4.0.6) they are changing it so feral druids can be polymorphed and can not longer break out of roots by shape shifting (Boomkins and Resto druids still will be able to). Feral druids are a hard counter right now to Mages.
