As most of you enchanters know, there are many different ways to make gold with enchanting. The first one, which is the most obvious, is Disenchanting. Disenchanting is a nice easy way to make gold, and it can be extremely profitable if you do it right. The second one, is actually enchanting. Enchanting peoples gear has always been a decent money maker, but now with enchant scrolls it can be extremely profitable. If you can combine both of these methods, you can make 500g+ in a matter of minutes (with waiting for auctions to sell, ofc). Today I'm going to go over each method, and share with you the different ways I've learned to make gold with them. A lot of it may be considered common sense, but I hope I share at least one method you haven't though of. Enjoy.
Disenchanting
Soloing Instances and DE'ing Drops
Soloing instances and De'ing drops has always been a nice way to make gold, Pre-BC people would farm Scarlet Monastery for Gold, but now, most every class can solo to atleast Hellfire Ramparts (first Outland Instance). With this advantage, you should be able to look up on the AH witch enchanting matt sells for the most. Then you can look up this material and learn what instance you should farm to get it. Almost all enchanting materials peak from time to time, as people leveling enchanting buy out the market. You, as a enchanter, should already know what enchanting material is rare and always in demand. If it's been a while since you've leveled your enchanting, don't fret. As it's really quite the same for every server. I'm going to go over all the different enchanting materials that I find the best to farm.
Greater Eternal Essence
This is by far the best item to farm, it's always in demand for people leveling enchanting (and if it isn't, wait till it is). The best place I found to farm them is Dire maul West. To farm Greater Eternal Essences from Diremaul West, all you need to do, is run in the instance, and run to the first boss. Kill it, DE the drop. When you kill him, the mobs in the first room will come agro'ing towards you. There easy to kill, and there drops actually might sell for quite a bit on the AH if you get lucky.
In Diremaul West, you might not want to just kill the first boss. As other ones, may drop Librams, which can sell up to 200g on some servers for people farming The Insane title. Here's a map of Diremaul West
(Image from WoWWiki)
The next two bosses are extremely easy to kill, and there De's are really profitable. There labeled as Numbers on the map.
You can clear Dire maul West 5 times in under 30 minutes if you're fast enough. Also, you might be able to run players alts through it for cash. I always charge 20g, which is a additional 100g in just about 30 minutes!
Large Brilliant Shards
This is one item that is extremely over farmed on some servers, but, from time to time, the auction house might not have many of them up, and you can get away selling them for more than 20g easily. The place I farm for this item is Stratholme. What makes farming it so great is you also recieve tons of reputation with the argent dawn, and if you do a full run you have a shot at the mount that drops from the last boss. Also, it's quite easy to make runs last more than 20 minutes, which means you can run it OVER AND OVER. I'll explain this more at the end of this segment.
Here's a map of Stratholme.

There's many different runs people do, and each one, the players claim it to be the best. But really, the best way to run it depends on the market of your auction house. There's 2 different quarts of stratholme, the living side, and the undead side. The living side is the eastern part of stratholme. Running this takes longer, and for it to really be worth it you'll need to kill trash. The trash drops Righteous Orbs, which can sell a lot depending on the market. The undead side, you'll want to only kill the bosses. Each boss will give you at least 1 large brilliant shard. To farm the Undead side only, you'll need a key which drops off "G". Ounce you get this key, you can enter the Undead Side through a secret gate which is "A". To get to this gate, start off from the main entrance and run directly north you'll find it.
IMO, the best way to run it is to make it so in 5 runs you take 60 minutes of time. So what you do is open up your stopwatch (click on the time on your minimap and hit show stop watch) and then hit play. Start clearing the living side, and see what time you took. If it's under 20 minutes, clear the undead side. Say this takes exactly 25 minutes, from this point on, you can run the Undead side (and lets say these take 10 minutes each) that's a total of 65 minutes running it a total of 5 times. So you can keep reseting it.
Ounce you start getting a stock of large brilliant shards, you'll find they can be annoying to sell. So what you should do is use them to make enchants. There are actually some Prebc Enchants people buy for BoA gear enchants. The one I always make is enchant weapon - agility. As it's extremely popular for twinks.
Arcane Dust / Greater Planar Essence
This is by far the most profitable depending on your class. As a mage, I find it extremely easy to AoE down instances, but I can see how some classes might have problems clearing some fast enough. While farming Arcane Dust / Greater Cosmic Essence, most of the gold you make will be from trash. The trash in Outland Instances drops a lot of gold along with profitable greens. A lot of the greens I get, I don't disenchant them, I sell them on the AH. Often times I get away selling these greens for over 50g!
The best instance I found to farm is Hellfire Ramparts, as it is the first instance people see in the outlands, you can find a lot of players alts looking for runs through it. I charge 20g a person, which can make runs extremely profitable. Also, I try and get two people of the same class, both players will want a item, so what I do is I tell them to do is ask if they want to pay for the item, or both roll. You can make quite a bit of money off the greedy. This also works out well, as the people want the blue/rare drops, and when you DE these you don't make much profit.
Something worth noting is you should check if the boss drop is worth selling to a vendor or disenchanting, something I made a huge mistake on is DE'ing a staff that drops in there, when it sells for over 10g.
Void Crystals
Void Crystals can actually be extremely profitable, especially if you have "Void Shatter" recipe. It Requires Shattered Sun Offensive - Honored. It's worth doing the dailies every day to get this recipe, it can be extremely profitable.
Anyway, the best way to get Void Crystals is to run Karazhan. Depending on your class, it can be easy to solo some Kara Bosses but I always recommend getting a 2nd. Find someone with the key if you can. If you dont have the key, kill your self at the gate to get in. A easy way to bring people with you is to promise them, if the mount drops, you get it. But, you can ninja the mount if you really want to. It probably want drop anyway6):
I don't have much experience solo'ing karazhan. but I did do it a couple of times on my druid. I healed a druid tank, and we killed every boss with ease. Except chess.
Tips of Clearing Instances
- Try to make 5 runs last 20 minutes each. If you clear all 5 runs in under a hour, you will have to wait to be able to reset a instance again.
- Find peoples alts to run with you. This makes it more profitable. Charge them 20g or so to run with you.
- Know the market, watch it closely. I convinced a friend of mine to run instances, he did, and he really enjoyed doing it. But, as the days went on, he complained about how hard it was to sell some of his items. Many of you will have the same experience. Try farming different items, so you don't have so much of one enchant matt. Also, make enchant scrolls and try to sell them.
- Make it fun! The one thing that makes farming enchant matts for gold is seeing the instances, that maybe you have forgetten or never seen.
Other Ways of Getting Enchanting Matts
There are other ways to get enchanting materials other than soloing instances. These methods can be risky so I suggest you watch the market well and make sure you will make profit. Never give in to selling a item if you won't make profit.
Crafting, then Disenchanting
Crafting then disenchanting is a very popular way of getting fast, cheap, enchant matts. The only problem with this is, you will need to calculate if it will make you profit or not. I actually craft a lot of items, and De them. One thing that has become very popular is making rings from jewel crafting then disenchanting them. This was a really nice way to make gold, but on some servers you might lose profit.
Something I really like to make is Netherweave Pants with the netherweave cloth I farmed from a instance, or just bought on the AH. A lot of times you can buy it really cheap from the AH or people leveling in Outlands. One item that has made me so much profit is White Bandit Masks. It's the cheapest thing to make and then DE into Vision Dust. But it requires a rare recipe. This has by far made me the most profit from crafting and disenchanting. The market on my server for vision dust is crap. Both of these items are created by tailoring. I suggest giving a alt tailoring and leveling it up.
Buying Items From Vendor, then Disenchanting
This is something I do a lot, because I mainly do arenas. Doing this, I am able to do arenas and Disenchant items for profit in between ques! Although, it's hard to find items that will make you profit. The only one I know of is a Vendor in Halaa. You have to control halaa for it to work though. I believe the vendor is labeled as a sword vendor.
Abyss Shatter, Void Shatter
Those are both great ways to get enchanting matts for a cheap price. Void Shatter it Requires Shattered Sun Offensive - Honored, abyssal shatter requires 450 enchanting and is trainable.
What I do, is try and buy Void Crystals off the AH and shatter them. I make sure I can make profit by selling Large Prismatic Shards. It creates two of them, so, it's not hard to calculate the prices needed to make profit. As long as it doesn't cost 2x as much as a large prismatic shard, you will make profit.
For Abyssal Shattering, I talk in trade saying I want to buy abyss crystals in bulk. Guilds usually have a bunch of them in there bank, and maybe they will be willing to sell them for a cheap price.
Buying Greens, then Disenchanting Them
This is the main way I get my enchanting matts. Since I have created a lot of enchant scrolls, I maintain a nice stock of them. So I can afford to buy the cheap greens of the AH and sort of stock up on the enchanting matts I get over time.
There are many people that are leveling in northrend, and they get a ton of greens. A lot of times, they just use a addon called auctioneer. This will just post the item a little above vendor price. So many times I have bought northrend greens for under 8g. I make sure I buy the ones with a high item level, as then, you get great cosmic essence.
Buy Raw Enchanting Matts
The easiest way to get enchanting matts: BUY THEM!
Common sense right? Will, actually, learning how to buy them is the hardest part. You need to understand the market and know when a item is cheap.
Making Enchanting Vellums, and Selling Them
This is probably the best way to make gold as a enchanter. I have given you all the ways I get enchanting materials, now time to make profit off of them. Making gold off Enchanting Scrolls, is extremely common sense so I want get into extreme detail of what to make, etc.
What I do is buy Tiger Lily's off the auction house, these usually sell extremely cheap. I have a inscription prospect(?) them and then with the materials he got, I have him turn them into Weapon/Armor Vellums. I make a lot at a time, and even sell some of them on the auction house for profit.
The one rule to make enchanting scrolls, is to make sure you make profit. Calculate the profit made from each scroll. If it's a expensive enchant scroll, make sure you make profit with the 10% AH fee after selling it.
Ounce you really start going to town making enchant scrolls, you will have a large stock of them. And it can be extremely hard to keep up with all your auctions. To help you out, I suggest you get quick auctions. It takes a while to set up, but, ounce set up you will love it most than.. err, life its self? It allows you to post all your auctions with one click of a button, and cancel all the auctions your undercut on, with one click of a button!
I hope this has helped some of you enchanters out there. I know a lot of what is in this guide is a repost, but it's nice to have one post of all the methods of making gold with enchanting. GL, have fun
