I'm aware there are other ventrilo guides, but none of them really go into the whole setup of ventrilo, just how to connect to servers and such. NOTE: BELOW INSTALLATION ARE SOME FEATURES YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT, THE INSTALLATION IS FOR NEW USERS!
Required Materials:
Ventrilo: Ventrilo - Download
Speakers: Walmart.com: Inland Pro Sound 2.1 3-Piece Computer Speaker System: Computers
Optional:
Mic/Headset
Lets begin [ NOTE THERE ARE A LOT OF PICTURES! ]
INSTALLATION: [ If you can't do this, its pretty sad, but I'll show you how to install it, considering this is for new people. ]
First, run the .exe to install, and this screen should come up, follow the pictures.

Now, setting up ventrilo:
Open ventrilo, and this screen should appear:
1. Click on the arrow next to username.
2. Click on the New button.
3. Fill out your username, this is the name others will see when you connect.
4. Hit OK.
1. Now, click the arrow next to "Server".
2. Click the New button.
3. Fill out the name of the server, you can put anything you want, this is just for you to see. ( Bill's Server, Raiding Server. ETC.)
4. Hit OK.
1. Fill out Hostname or Ip ( THIS MATTERS ) , then fill out Port Number (THIS MATTERS), If there is a password, enter it, otherwise leave it blank. Default channel doesn't really matter.
2.Click OK.
1. Click Connect.
If you get an error, check if you have entered all of the information is correct, or if the server in online.
Setting up your preferences:
1) Click Setup
1) Enable outgoing voice communications - Do you want to speak?
2) Checking this allows you to hold down a button when you want to speak, I use this.
3) Use Direct Input to detect Hotkey, Check this.
4) Discard Hotkey, doesn't matter.
5) Play Key Clicks makes a noise whenever you press your push to talk button, and when you release it.
6) Click in this box, and then press whatever key you want to use to talk. I use Left Ctrl or Left Shift.
7) Silence Time, this is used when you are not using PTT, and its how long in between talking, the silence lasts.
Sensitivity, this is how loudly you have to speak to be able to be heard when not using PTT. ( 0 = Always talking )
9) Test - Test if your mic is working!
10) Enabling this allows for special effects, Output device is for what you are using to speak.
11) Enable this. Input is for what you hear with.
12) Outbound - How loud you are. 0 = Lowest, 10 = Highest
13) Inbound - How loud incoming voices/sounds are. 0 = Lowest, 10 = Highest
Special Effects:
1)First, right click any person in Ventrilo.
2)Then, hover over Miscellaneous, and go click Special effects...
From here, you can edit how loud people are, and other fun effects like echos.
In this example, I will add Sound.
1. Makes them more quiet
2. Makes them louder
