When Wrath of the Lich King released, my buddy and I went to Wal-Mart to buy the game and we got back to my house and started the installation process. Well I have a 2008 Laptop and he has a 2004 Desktop that we rebuilt and one key detail that he didn't realize was the game was DVD-ROM and he didn't have a CD/DVD drive...he's an idiot, I know. Anyways, I'm going to show how to use your network to transfer files to another computer in your house.
First, both computers must be attached one way or another, whether it be through LAN/HUB Connection or Wireless connections.
Find the files that you WANT to transfer, for this example Iâm going to use Guitar Pro 5, Your going to Right-Click the file and select âSharing and Securityâ
You will have a screen that says <software name here> Properties
Click the âIf you understand the security risks but want to share files without running the wizard, click here.â
Click that and another box comes up that talks about File Sharing, Check the âJust enable file sharingâ and hit Okay.
The previous screen will now have more options, click the box âShare this folder on the networkâ and give it a share name.
Click Apply then Okay.
Now go to My Computer and right click it, go to Sharing and Security (again) but this time it will say âTo protect your computer from unauthorized access, sharing the rood of a drive is not recommended.â Just click âIf you understand the risks but still want to share the root of the drive, click here.â
You will have to click the button âShare this folder on the network.â And give it a name like the previous.
Now after thatâs completed, Right click âMy Computerâ and go to âMap Network Driveâ
It will look much like this,
Go to Browse, and find the computer you are wanting to transfer the files to. Select the folder that they opened up for sharing and hit âOpenâ. A new folder will open up containing the objects they are allowing to share. Just copy and paste the file, program, movie you want onto their drive and then BAM! Thatâs it.
*Note* It does NOT all programs will work because they need registry settings, the could maybe help with installation times? Games like WoW will work because it doesnât need a registry to work.
