He does the maths and comes up with the following answer: He has lost 50g now, but if he opens box 2, finds the 60g epic and sells it for 60g, he will have lost 100g and gained 60g. That totals to a 40g loss.
-100 + 60 = -40 (> -50)
He'd rather lose 40g total than 50g total, so he opens box 2. Since there is no epic inside, he has 2 gray items, 100g less and a reason to report you for scamming.
