How do you actually "Keep" your rating through seasons?

Is this possible / was this possible?

Being 2.4k+ arena, can this be carried over from season to season? And if so, what must be done? I remember the conversation and frustration about high rated players just "sitting" their rating. How was / is this done?

Never heard of the possibility of carrying your rating from a season to another.

By "sitting" on their rating they just mean staying at a certain rating for the entire season and not attempting to climb higher.

Example, I reach a rating of 2700 and decide I will not be queueing anymore because I feel like that is more than enough for a Gladiator title.

"back then" there was an example given of only playing 1-2games and then being done, rating wise, for this season (not speaking of conquest cap)

That has never been possible. Rating has always gotten wiped between seasons.
Sitting always referred to what D3Pleveling talked about

IIRC: In early TBC there was no personal rating so you could pay to join a high rated team and play 10 games on it and have around 2.1k rating or so...
