When to expect a ban after an infraction?

Hi there.
Just got a perma ban today for:

Reason for Closure: Terms of Use Violation -- Exploitative Activity: Abuse of the Economy

This account was closed because one or more characters were identified exchanging, or contributing to the exchange of, in-game property (items or gold) for "real-world" currency. This exchange process negatively impacts the World of Warcraft game environment by detracting from the value of the in-game economy.

Thing is, the time I bought some gold was like 6 months ago, so it doesn't make any sense...
Do peeps really look back that much in time when trying to find someone buying gold?

A ban is a ban & yes they do look back.

They surely have some sad people.
If they go through (at least) 6 month of all logs for silly reasons as this one.

Meh, they reactivated it. turned out because I was using a proxy service to improve my ms.
