Does blizzard ban by name or IP address?

Recently I sold a WoW account which in the end was banned.

If I make a new account in the same name and with the same IP address as the one I sold, will blizzard ban the new account?

They will lose you as a customer then.


If you get banned, its only the account. Then you are forced to buy new cd keys and start again.

Well my name isn't generic at all so it would be obvious that I was the owner of both accounts. So Blizzard will not ban the new account if the other was banned for trading? I just want some confirmation before I go dropping 80 dollars on another WoW client.

They don't ban by name, they ban the account you do something wrong on. Once you get a new acc it's a clean slate.
