changing char name without paying for it

ok, so my buddy gave his account to me because he stopped playing. I have my own account and thought about transfering some of his chars off(I already merged his account to my battle.net account). however, he has a bad taste in naming his chars and I can't see myself leveling them with such bad names. so is there a way to change their names without having to pay for it? could I do something like transfering the char and then immediatly delete it, make a lvl1 with the same name and call a GM or something?
any help is appreciated.

You could have a friend report you for "NO RP NAMEZ!!!!", it has happend that they promt you for a namechange, aint to common thought.

Otherwise, nope, you'll have to pay for it. 10-20 EUR (W/E it is) aint that much money, however

yea well the names kinda ARE rp names, that's why I don't like them

and it's 20€ I think. I think it is much considering that they just change a few letters from an online avatar. and the chars aren't even 80. so that's why I don't like paying for it.

20 euros for a name to change?... it's a lot. I think there no way to change a name but you can trick them like the way you said probably or report the name i dont know/see any other way..

Also blizzard trying to make profit from everything that he could actually make players to pay for.. and that just make a bad marketing name coz you must have money for loose to pay for it...

You can delete char, create new one on trial acc on the same realm with same name and write to gm that your little brother got drunk and deleted your char. Gm will restore it and you would be forced to change char's name because of the trial one that took it already.

If you transfer servers and someone already has that name you get to pick a new one.

yeah if u are planning on transfering them to your account or changing servers just make a character on that server with that name u can even use his account then when you transfer it there it will make you change the toons name.

I deleted the the character and had my sister reserve the name. Then when they restored it I was able to rename it. I did for two different characters in the same day. There is a certain amount of risk involved though :x limited number of restores and such D:

Ok, for Ryuker's idea, it works, but you can only do it 4 times before Blizzard won't restore the chars, but I would only risk it once. Delete char, someone else ninja the name, ticket.

Won't work, same IP on the trial acc, the best you can do is to tell someone to log in your account, delete the char, get someone to create a char with that name and ask for restore, work everytime, too bad I have an authenticator.

laptop + wireless card + unsecured public network, delete toon, roll toon of same name on different account.

Then get home, change your password after that and report it as deleted under "unknown" cause
