That is everything but pointless... It shows that Blizzard is building the world outside the player limits to make it more realistic. Or they just want to make our flights a bit more interesting.

Think I've found a video that shows how to get there (required: Being a mage) :

I cannot confirm if it still works as I don't have any mage. But I can confirm that it's still there as I got there just some minutes ago on my priest using a wallclimber (An option too).
