Once when my guild was doing ZG, blizz restarted the server right as we got to Hakkar (damnit!), and when we logged back in we fell from the sky in random places.

I remember something similar to this.

I was in BRD so I went to the MC Guy who takes you into MC. I spammed the button kept saying "You need raid group". After I was done spamming the button I walked out to jump around.

I was jumping DC'ed and logged back into MC without a raid group !

I shortly died there after since I logged into MC in front of some mobs

Can't this be client side? I mean, you get DCed, the client gets a ?? or whatever.

When it goes back in game, it by a mistake messes up reading coordinates or loads the wrong .adts, but gets the GO's and NPCs...

No wait.. That sounded better in my head.. But, well, what I got to support my theory, is what someone posted on the first page of this thread.
Heres a picture of running east of the mailbox in grom'gol and disconnecting.
    http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/7825/bugof2.jpg
it says im under silithus. (on the map) but /who Im in StrangeThorn Vale
As we all can see, there is a grom'gol grunt selected. And, as far as I know, none of those in the sea of Silithus. With other words, the client shows up at a whole other spot then the server thinks, thats why the GO's and NPCs.
FOR A MOMENT, NOTHING HAPPENED. THEN, AFTER A SECOND OR SO, NOTHING CONTINUED TO HAPPEN.

these maps do not stack, because to do sowould actually use more energy. blizzard servers load all NPCs and Gameobjects in an instance when they run game, so to have all cities or areas, or even some, stacked above each other would take an immensely large amount of time to load, and would use possibly double the memory of their actual layout, as they would have to load the different areas like kalimdor and azeroth together in the same instance, and ther ewould be problems with NPCs falling through gameobjects after restarts, and restarts would take MUCH longer.

In blizzard's current layout, all of kalimdor is a single piece of land, but not really land, its like a piece of paper mache, only a shell, which all zones are connected to. even islands are connected to this piece by land. if i bring my server up again, i would gladly take the time to show you how it works.

the reason for the teleportation is that when you disconenct while your coordinates are still changing serverside, sometimes the server will receive all of the following at once.

    mapid 0 X
    566.443 y3344.5 z-223
    mapid 0 X
    566.443 y3344.5 z-244
    mapid 0 X
    566.467 y3344.9 z-265

what can happen in such a situation is that all that data arrives at the server while you disconnect, and the server running program can store the values in the wrong place. the end result may be

    mapid
    244 X566.443 y3344.5 z-223

Where the Z coordinate has been entered as the value of the Map Id, thus sending your character into a different instanced map. all of the wow maps are instanced, each separated in a different region of memory.

I have seen every inch of land and air and water in WoW inside private servers, and I can show they each have a different map ID for triggers.

GM island, and all of Kalimdor have the id of 0
Eatstern kingdoms has a map ID of 1
    they are completely separated.

notice the 0 in kalimdor, when it is substitued for all fields, the 0 coordinate is about stonetalon mountains, because the kalimdor instance actually extends four miles off the map to GM island. which is in quadrant II or the graphic overlay of the map. for this reason, when the server receives your coordinates, it receives them in the following order:

    MapID X Y Z Orientation(direction you face)

If you disconnect while the 0 for mapid is being sent and before the X,the server will fill all your coordinates with 0, to compensate the data. this is why blizzard gives you a logout wait time, because after the 3rd second to logging out it stops transmitting your data to the remote server to avoid bugs like this.

Also to the person who said the stuff about quel thalas.
The maps you see with your world map are just drawings, they dont accurately represent the real land, and reason you see people in ghostlands on outlands minimap sometimes is because ghostlands is in same instance ads outlands, but different zoneID so you cnat use flyer. the ghostlands are pretty far east of outlands, and way below. (as far as your corpse falls when you fall off outlands, thats sea level ).

Winterspring is part of the Kalimdor map, it is possible to isolate it to use as a dungeon etc, but the actual zone is part of kalimdor.

the same goes for alterac. thus why there is no loading screen.

but the same can also be reversed. the map of the mount hyjal raid instance minus the houses has existed ingame for years. they simply copied the world terraina nd replicated part of it in a new instance entry in the SQL database, and added gameobject houses etc.

the ghostlands is on the same instance, or "physical map" as outlands. the only thing is that to fit lore, they entered it's shape on the "interface map" as being north of eastern kingdoms.

the viewable ingame world map actually has no real conenction with the ingame real terrain map.

you havent proved anything. please go learn emu and make your own server, manage it for a while, learn to .worldport, or go into model editing so you can see all the maps yourself. these concepts I have explained are a very basic part of all three dimensional games, virtual video, and programming itself. it is even shown a little in memory editing. I realise i did the same thing as you, but I ask of you not to type without knowledge. please try to confirm the validity of the theory. Test your hypothesis before publishing it
I learnt quite a lot of things, thank you

For starters... Take ur time to read this post from start till end or you wont get the idea of this story. Its confusing and messy and if someone knows what causes this, what was the bug made of etc etc would be more than glad to hear explanation for it. So far this is the only topic i feel like posting in alltho i've been here for months as an active user... Explained this scene to friendly GM i met few months later and he never had heard nor seen anything like this happen. This is what happened to me during the brewfest:

Friend of mine got disced when he jumped off the zep from GG->Org... Or well, to be precise, he didn't disc, his screen froze. After several minutes of waiting (5-10) nothing happened so he needed to close WoW manually. After that his char was falling below Hinterlands. When i heard this i tought it was pretty much a random bug or so... When i went there to copy the same scene and did everything in the same order as my friend had done, my screen froze aswell. When i logged back i was still at the same location where i were about to fall. After few more tries it happened to me, it ported me below Hinterlands. This is where i started investigating about the scene for the next few days.

What i found out was that when my screen frozed and i shut down wow manually, it teleported me at the same exact location at every single time (did this for over 50 times which is quite alot). The explanation for porting to same loc is explained above at the previous posts. The odd part is, that when i realized pretty much what the case was made of, i started to run at the void towards Hyjal. Alltho my camera & char was under hyjal, my "spirit" was at Durotar. When i did /who on me i was at Hinterlands and i showed there at map aswell. To my friends and randoms it showed that i were under durotar. So when i finally reached Hyjal zone with my spirit (the one at durotar), i got the "No Man's Land" debuff which i tought would happen like it did. It ported me under beginning of Darkwhisper Gorge, the area controlled by demons at southern winterspring. All the mobs in range of my spirit i was able to see. After few seconds floating in the air, i began to fall. I finally landed to the sea with no fatigue, no breathmeter or anything. when i watched map again, it showed to my friends that i were with my spirit in front of Darkwhisper Gorge. However, i was on lowbie char by then (lvl 20+) and yet the elites didnt aggro on me nor my friends could see me there. My "real char" (more likely char + cam) fell to north from EPL, at Ghostlands area. However, i weren't really in Ghostlands since i were still at Eastern Kingdoms. I never entered the portal what takes you to Ghostlands. When i swam to north, east or south anything unexpected didn't really happen expect i was immortal, but when i swam to west towards hyjal with cam + char, i gained new No Man's Land debuff and it ported me back up at the same exact location mentioned above, in front of Darkwhisper Gorge. So well what you did with ur cam + char, so did ur spirit do. If you moved to west, ur spirit moved to west aswell.

Basically what im confused about is, that how can the server get so ****ed up by causing this alone to the one's who jump off the zep at location that what causes you to get stuck between 2 servers? I never took time to explore it till end since i had started wow again since rl friends were moaning me to. After few days brewfest had ended i tried to finish my investigations but it never worked anymore. Thats why i cannot really say that would it have been possible to see NPCs and players at Eastern Kingdoms aswell and attack to them.

In a nutshell since the explanation might've been a bit confusing, this was what the brewfest bug was made of :

-Jump off zep caused ur wow to froze, when logged back you got under hinterlands. And oh, almost forgot to mention, brewfest tents, gates and everything was in hinterlands above me when i logged back.
-This caused ur "spirit" and char to get separated between 2 servers, Kalimdor & Eastern Kingdoms.
-Ur spirit copies everything you do with ur char at the different server.
-Run towards hyjal with ur spirit (aim ur running towards hyjal carefully using ur friends for aiming since once you press running button you cannot change the direction what you've chosen)
    -Ur char gains immortality.
-Spirit was vulnerable to fatigue atleast, to NPCs - not. Spirit was invisible to players aswell.
-Rebooting WoW manually in void caused you to zone to silithus. After rebooting from here nothing happens.

Hope this helps someone atleast in a way or other. Aswell if here are any experts of this issue, would be more than glad to hear the explanation like said.

This is a very good working exploit, though I can not use search, I know that this is DEF. A repost. Don't flame him for it though.
