When you click on the Cross Realm Assist mini map icon you get a box up on the screen which has a join button. Click the 'quick join' button, wait a few moments, and the button will change to 'leave group'. The very second it says leave group you click it. You shouldn't need any 'phase markers' to see if the phase has changed as it should always work if you leave group in-time. A testament to it working is that you ocasionally have to log out as it disconnects client side not server side (you will see what I mean when it happens)
