But the real question is, will the points be available more than in a 2-heroics spurt? Say you do it 4am then 2pm one day, can you do 4am and 2pm again the next day? Or is it still once a "day" whatever 24-hr period blizz has set. Because doing it once is not enough to even prove this, since I could do a heroic at midnight and then at 3am for jp's for example, but I wouldnt be able to do another one at midnight and still get points.. (sorry this isnt a very clear response but its complicated lol)

I did this every day when I was farming my valor. Never posted it because I figured it was known.
Also, this was all before the 4.06 patch, so it may or may not be fixed.

I got into the habit of doing my dailies at 1am and 3:01am, then would stay off wow completely until 1am server time the next day.
It was a guarantee you'd get an extra run, and I reliably farmed it every day.

Yeah I have been doing this since cata launch. Never posted because I couldn't replicate it 100%. You are correct when you state you need to log off. Generally did the daily at rollover then goto bed. Wake up and do later. Also you have to log off the account not the character which sucks.
