Works for me, but I use a switch on my modem which disables it temporarily.

Managed to get a friend his instance loot quickly by doing this, only time I got DC was if I spent more than about a minute DCed but we would just go to a ledge, turn back on, wait for mobs to respawn, go further, etc.

If I aggroed a mob or anything before doing this, or a patrol hit me in the middle of this, I dc'd though. Dont know why it wouldnt be working for you guys.

Edit: also, from my friend's screen he said that I began walking towards where I was going and then poof, appeared in the area.

To clarify; This could actually work and it's not the same as unplugging the power to the modem. Since you just remove the cable from your PC, most modems / routers atleast, cache data that couldn't be recieved / sent and tries again a certain amount of times.

And before any wiseguy comes here, NO, not ALL routers / modems but mine does atleast so therefor I'm entitled to speak of my own experiences.

Wrong. I'm not saying his method works, but this is not true at all. I have my own way of doing this that works flawlessly.

Look up winlag by Flying Piggy... PS: This is not an exploit and it doesn't belong in this section.

Blizzard does a connectivity check every 30 sec, if you happen to have your cord unplugged, while it happens, you DC and get put back where you originally unplugged your cord. If you go too far, I think its 100 yards away, the server will disconect you when you replug your cord and you will be put back where you used to be.

Oh also.... Laptops have an ethernet port too... *eyeroll*

I'm aware that various forms of DC exploits are available, and functional, but my reply relates specifically to the OP.

I tried this on my work computer (XP 32-bit), my laptop (Vista Ultimate 32-bit) and my gaming rig (Vista Ultimate 64-bit). Every single time resulted in an almost instantaneous DC. I also tried this connected directly to my cable modem, and through my ASUS WL-520GU, custom firmware with DD-WRT, so I know for a fact the router was caching data from both ends. Still, almost an instant DC with each attempt. I even tried routing WoW through SocksCap and restarting SocksCap very quickly, and always an almost instant DC. The longest I was able to stay connected and moving was about 2 seconds.

I don't think this is a reliable hack. It might work for you, it might work for others, but repeated attempts just kicked me to the log-in screen.

    (Don't ask for REP!)

EDIT: I tried this on my neighbor's internet connection as well with my laptop, through his Linksys WRT-54G2 and his Bellsouth DSL connection, still didn't work.

I will try this dc thing anyway with ADSL and Linksys router.
Anyway to clarify something to you jankem.
It's not the same if you totaly unplug power chord for your modem and if you just pull out your eth cable out of your pc. Since when you unplug eth cable, your modem is connected and he send/reccive information, tho when you pull out power chord there is no send/reccive, You only get insta dc (I know when it happened to me), and when you simply unplug eth cable you get some time be4 dc (simple PING/PONG - client/server).
So basicly as someone be4 sayed there is a chance that this realy work. I think PING/PONG have 30 sec timer so there you go (you don't want to owerfloow someone with pinging while playing).

Jank, why do you always try and talk people down because they have lesser rep? This does actually work. Although not like you would like it. When you replug the internet cable, you D/C...D: +Rep for contrib

I'm quoting this because people ignore anything which wasn't posted at least twice.

Even with this tool it takes a lot practice to make any use of it. I needed 3 tries to get past a trash pack in SSC.
So, for a whole raid this is a rather impossible to perform and it isn't much use for soloing stuff either.

...Because they disconnect you from the server. This whole exploit relies on the Blizzard servers just thinking it's packet loss/intermittent failure. If they think you're actually disconnected, then it won't work.

That's what he means by them disconnecting you.

I tested this for the hell of it, worked on my lowbie, no problem, guessing it just works like the teleport hacks, some leniency for lag could be the reason
And it's not the same as pulling the plug out of your modem, a modem takes a while to boot/configure itself, whereas unplugging your ethernet just creates a gap, else you'd get dced for every time you had a packet lost to the server.. lol

I'm not trashing his idea based on rep, but on common sense. I have no bias based on people's rep standing (well, some leechers). This is a community site, and part of being in a community is being told you're wrong. Happens to me. Happens to us all.
